I had an exciting weekend, and I hope all of you also did. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen my Instastory about Emersyn and the red velvet cake. But, since so many of you probably did not hear the story, I am going to tell it again. If you already know the story, then you can skip ahead. Last week when Emersyn was visiting, she had gotten in trouble for being rotten (I was also shocked. Lol!) and her mother was telling me all of the things that she had done. Emersyn and I had a discussion, and it was agreed upon, that if she could be “good” for an entire week, then she and I would bake a red velvet cake.
I had completely forgotten about our agreement, but on Friday night, she reminded me by telling me that she had been good all week long. I told her that her mother had to say to me the same thing before we could bake the cake. I have my phone set on “do not disturb” so it doesn’t ring from 10:00 pm until 8:00 am unless it is one of my “favorites” who are family members. Saturday morning at 6:45, my phone started ringing, so I jumped up and ran to the phone. It worried me when one of my family is calling that early. I saw that it was my son’s phone, and when I answered, I heard, “NeeNee, I don’t have school today, so we can bake that red velvet cake.” I reminded the little rat that she had a football game to cheer for and that she needed to go back to sleep to rest. Dang! She sure had a red velvet cake on the brain! Later that day, her mom backed up her story, so I went to the store where I spent over 200.00. Obviously, I bought more items than was needed to bake a cake, but I swear I didn’t buy much. Grocery prices have gotten out of control. Saturday afternoon, she came over, and we started the process. She had a blast getting to pour in all of the ingredients and stir everything together. To be continued tomorrow…..
I think that the licking of the spatula was her favorite part. If the first thing that you noticed it the sudden appearance of the sunflowers and the big red vase, then you have been reading my blog for a while. No, the vase has not been resurrected, it was beyond repair and has been trashed. But, I found several photos that I had taken that had never been published on the blog, so I thought that I needed to get them on here before summer is over. I love this bright pink top that I bought earlier in the spring. It is linen, so it is cool even in the hottest weather. The top is no longer on the website, they don’t keep clothing around for very long, but I did find some adorable pink tops that I thought you might like.
I chose to accessorize today with Emersyn and a scarf. Who could even notice the scarf when you had a cutie like Miss E hanging on me? My bright yellow earrings are a discontinued pair from plunder, and my yellow bangles are vintage bakelite. The scarf is an old one that I think I bought from Cato Fashions, but I am not sure. I love accessories because they can change the look of an outfit, and they are very affordable. The scarves that I have linked to are all on sale for 20.00 or under.
The wide-leg pant trend is still going strong! I know a lot of shorter petite ladies are groaning over this trend because they don’t think it looks good on them. You can still wear the wide-leg trend, even if you are petite, but you have to be careful were the hemline strikes you. You want to look taller, so having a high waist will help. Also, showing some ankle helps you to look taller, so try to get the cropped version and strive for the pant to hit you above the ankle bone. Wearing a platform heel also helps, but you can still wear flats as long as the hemline is above the ankle.
