Perception can change your life, or it can hinder your life. The way that you perceive yourself may not be based on facts, but instead, it is an idea of who we are or what we think that we are. Even the way that others perceive you is usually not accurate, but instead a biased opinion. So, what does this all mean? Thoughts and words are powerful! I cannot stress how powerful thoughts and words are. Have you ever said…
I am too old
I can’t catch on quickly
I don’t know anything about technology
It is not possible for me to do that
I am not qualified
Maybe those aren’t the thoughts that you have said, but they are the thoughts that I have said. I have told myself all of those things and plenty of other things that were just as limiting. I held myself back from trying new things because I was afraid of trying, of being made fun of, of failing.
Usually, I am an optimistic person, but there are times when I fall into the trap of comparison. I find myself reacting to situations instead of proactively looking for a solution. It is much easier to throw up my hands and say that I can’t than it is to go through all of the trouble of figuring out how I CAN.
I am a person of faith! I know that the Lord has said that I can do “all” things through Him. I know that He will “conquer” all of my problems. I know that with Him, and through Him, nothing is impossible.
So, if I can flip the switch in my brain, then I can have a more positive perspective. I can have a failure, and instead of shutting down and quitting, I can thank the Lord for helping me learn and grow. Failure is all part of learning. A child learning to walk doesn’t stop trying once it falls, so why do we?
My perspective is not based on reality, but the Lord knows everything about me. He wants to see me soar. He wants to see me grow in knowledge and confidence. He loves me and wants the best for me. He is not going to quit giving me new challenges because He doesn’t want me to become stagnant. I need to learn to trust more and to embrace each new chapter of my life. He has the ultimate plan!
So, today, try flipping the switch in your brain. Take a good look at the path that you are on and see if you think that it aligns with God’s will. I found this quote, and I thought that I would share it with all of you.
“God’s perspective on us is remarkable, almost unbelievable. He delights in us and loves us as a caring Father. He’s running toward us, ready to embrace and forgive us. He’s for us in all the pain of life and can sustain us in every challenge. As I learn to see from God’s perspective, my perspective on everything else shifts. I realize that my failures don’t disqualify me. I’m aware of the security I already have in God’s grace. I trust that nothing will separate me from the love of God in Christ.” ~ Jud Wilhite
