Saturday morning was beautiful in San Francisco. The weather had been predicted to be rainy and cold, but the sun was shinning instead. It was chilly, but I came prepared and stayed snuggly warm. I dressed for comfort and warmth, but you know that I had to add some stylish elements. My first stop on my excursion was for a LONG massage. I must be the most uptight person around because they always ask me how long it has been since my last massage, and then they tell me to start scheduling them more often. Lol! I tell them that if they lived with Joe that they would be tight and tense too. LOL!!! Next was a two-hour excursion to Alcatraz. My daughter gave me strict instructions to look for sharks in the water, but I am thankful to say that I didn’t see any. I did see a seal floating around and enjoying the beautiful sunny weather, but that was all. It only took 10 to 12 minutes to make the ferry trip over to the island. My first impression was how scary this place looked. Here is where the ferry docks. Then, you had better be prepared to go hiking straight uphill. I wish someone had warned me about that before I got there. We would walk up a steep incline, and then you make the turn and do it all over again. I didn’t think we would ever get to the top. I did the audio tour, and it was interesting. I found it sad and depressing inside. I understand that the men who were sentenced there were some of the most dangerous men in the country, but it was still soul-sucking. Interestingly, there was a gorgeous view of San Francisco from the top, but I doubt that they saw that view. There was a lot of damage to some of the buildings. The saltwater can take its toll on outdoor structures, and this one was almost destroyed. Remember the list that my Energize Bunny Friends daughter made for me? As it turns out, I didn’t have to pack an old backpack after all. After we arrived in San Francisco, we went to registration and were given a bag of goodies. I was thrilled when I saw that a backpack was one of our gifts. I don’t think that I have EVER been excited to see a backpack before. Lol! This infinity scarf was also in the goodie bag. I would have worn it shorter like a true infinity scarf except the sweatshirt had a giant hoodie. When I tried to shorten it, I felt like I was being choked and that was not the effect that I was looking for. Haha!EBF and I jumped on the Cable Car (I didn’t get a photo of me hanging off), and we managed to snap this photo while trying our best not to get hit by a car. The lady behind us joined in the picture and then wanted EBF to send the photo to her also. Our Cable Car driver was so funny, and he poked at EBF and me the whole time we were on the car. He even stopped for a few minutes for us to grab some photos before we continued on our way. Here I am at the top of Lombard street. This street claims to be “the crookedest street in the world,” and I am not about to dispute that. I am used to very curvy roads here in the mountains, but this one is crazy. Here was the entrance to Chinatown. This was the picture that I sent to Joe to show him where I was when the light turned for us to start walking. Look to the far left where the steps begin. If you look carefully, you will see a wedge ramp that leads up to the large concrete Foo dog. The 4-inch base is what I stubbed my toe on, and then I fell into the upper part of the base. It even hurts me to look at this photo. Isn’t this a gorgeous photo? I loved the turquoise lampposts with the pagoda style lamp and all of the hanging lanterns overhead. It was so festive, and I wished that I could have stayed around until dark to see them all lit up. We even saw a photo-shoot taking place in the middle of the street while we were there. That dress that she is wearing is gorgeous! It made me nervous about them being in the middle of the road but when I looked back, the coast was clear. The day was finished, and all we had to do was walk back to our hotel. When you ladies told me that there would be a lot of walking, you weren’t kidding. Whew, between walking from one end of the Charlotte airport to the other as fast as we could to make our connecting flight, and walking all over Fisherman’s Wharf and Chinatown, I was one tired puppy when I made it back to the room.
