50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40Saturday morning was beautiful in San Francisco. The weather had been predicted to be rainy and cold, but the sun was shinning instead. It was chilly, but I came prepared and stayed snuggly warm. I dressed for comfort and warmth, but you know that I had to add some stylish elements. My first stop on my excursion was for a LONG massage. I must be the most uptight person around because they always ask me how long it has been since my last massage, and then they tell me to start scheduling them more often. Lol! I tell them that if they lived with Joe that they would be tight and tense too. LOL!!!50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40 Next was a two-hour excursion to Alcatraz. My daughter gave me strict instructions to look for sharks in the water, but I am thankful to say that I didn’t see any. I did see a seal floating around and enjoying the beautiful sunny weather, but that was all. It only took 10 to 12 minutes to make the ferry trip over to the island.50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40 My first impression was how scary this place looked. 50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40Here is where the ferry docks. Then, you had better be prepared to go hiking straight uphill. I wish someone had warned me about that before I got there. We would walk up a steep incline, and then you make the turn and do it all over again. I didn’t think we would ever get to the top. I did the audio tour, and it was interesting. I found it sad and depressing inside. I understand that the men who were sentenced there were some of the most dangerous men in the country, but it was still soul-sucking. Interestingly, there was a gorgeous view of San Francisco from the top, but I doubt that they saw that view.50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40 There was a lot of damage to some of the buildings. The saltwater can take its toll on outdoor structures, and this one was almost destroyed. Remember the list that my Energize Bunny Friends daughter made for me? As it turns out, I didn’t have to pack an old backpack after all. After we arrived in San Francisco, we went to registration and were given a bag of goodies. I was thrilled when I saw that a backpack was one of our gifts. I don’t think that I have EVER been excited to see a backpack before. Lol!50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40 This infinity scarf was also in the goodie bag. I would have worn it shorter like a true infinity scarf except the sweatshirt had a giant hoodie. When I tried to shorten it, I felt like I was being choked and that was not the effect that I was looking for. Haha!50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40EBF and I jumped on the Cable Car (I didn’t get a photo of me hanging off), and we managed to snap this photo while trying our best not to get hit by a car. The lady behind us joined in the picture and then wanted EBF to send the photo to her also. Our Cable Car driver was so funny, and he poked at EBF and me the whole time we were on the car. He even stopped for a few minutes for us to grab some photos before we continued on our way.50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40 Here I am at the top of Lombard street. This street claims to be “the crookedest street in the world,” and I am not about to dispute that. I am used to very curvy roads here in the mountains, but this one is crazy.50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40 Here was the entrance to Chinatown. This was the picture that I sent to Joe to show him where I was when the light turned for us to start walking. Look to the far left where the steps begin. If you look carefully, you will see a wedge ramp that leads up to the large concrete Foo dog. The 4-inch base is what I stubbed my toe on, and then I fell into the upper part of the base. It even hurts me to look at this photo.50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40 Isn’t this a gorgeous photo? I loved the turquoise lampposts with the pagoda style lamp and all of the hanging lanterns overhead. It was so festive, and I wished that I could have stayed around until dark to see them all lit up.50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40 We even saw a photo-shoot taking place in the middle of the street while we were there. That dress that she is wearing is gorgeous! It made me nervous about them being in the middle of the road but when I looked back, the coast was clear.50 IS NOT OLD | DRESS FOR COMFORT WHEN SIGHTSEEING | FASHION OVER 40 The day was finished, and all we had to do was walk back to our hotel. When you ladies told me that there would be a lot of walking, you weren’t kidding. Whew, between walking from one end of the Charlotte airport to the other as fast as we could to make our connecting flight, and walking all over Fisherman’s Wharf and Chinatown, I was one tired puppy when I made it back to the room.

  16. I would love to try a mini facial! I turned 50 last month and I can tell such a difference in my skin over the past year. It’s like 50 wrinkles were just waiting to pop out on me!

    • Tania Reply

Oh no, Anita! Those pesky 50 wrinkles are the worst. Lol!

  17. This was a fun post, but why Alcatraz? Not inspiring, beautiful or particularly interesting. You have done such a great job in your business!

    • Tania Reply

It has a ton of history and I wanted to see the location. I think the size was surprising to me, I expected it to be much bigger than it was.

  18. Sandra Libero Reply

  37. I love your photos from San Fran – wasn’t it a terrific place to visit? Our family of four took a trip when our boys were in high school and I was reliving some of our adventures just looking at your pictures. The only scary part of our trip were the cab drivers! Those guys drive SO FAST, whipping in and out of traffic on those busy streets….I wanted to kiss the ground every time we arrived safely somewhere! Lol!! I’m glad you had a fantastic time there!

I would love a mini facial, Tania! And thank you for posting the beautiful pics of SF and surrounding sights. Alcatraz fascinates me. I was in SF when I was a child and teen and we got to go to Chinatown. I have always loved oriental architecture and style of dress with the colors. I like some Chinese food – we went with some friends in Missouri to a Chinese restaurant and I had the BEST Orange Chicken I have ever eaten!! I’m glad you’re enjoying your time there. I hope your toe is better!
