50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO WEAR PLAID BUT NOT LOOK LIKE A LUMBERJACK | FASHION OVER 40I am filling so refreshed after this weekend. I did NOTHING! It was so nice not to have anyplace to go or anything to do. We did have Joe’s friend over the weekend and it was great getting to know him. You can tell he is a very nice man when he declared my Saturday night’s meal as one of his top 10 meals ever! Lol! I would like to think that it was my “flair” for fixing Uncle Ben’s Rice and grilling out a superb steak (complete with garlic draw butter) but the truth is, it was probably the cheesed egg rolls that we purchased at a local eatery.50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO WEAR PLAID BUT NOT LOOK LIKE A LUMBERJACK | FASHION OVER 40 I know everyone probably has one of those “hole-in-the-wall” type joints that have amazing food. Ours is called Cuz’s Uptown Bar-B-Que and it is an old barn that has been converted into a restaurant. EVERYTHING on the menu is ah-mazing, but their cheese egg rolls really take it to a different level. If there is anyone reading this from my neck of the woods they are sitting here nodding in agreement. The crazy thing is, this restaurant is only open Wednesday through Saturday and they are even closed completely during certain months of the year. I know a lady (not me) who will purchase a hundred of these eggrolls and freeze them so that she can have them while they are closed. I might try that this year, along with a gallon or two of the red sauce that they serve with them. If any of you have an ah-mazing recipe for cheesed eggrolls, please post it!!! Can you tell that I have been dieting? Food is high up on my cravings list. Lol!!!50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO WEAR PLAID BUT NOT LOOK LIKE A LUMBERJACK | FASHION OVER 40 I am sure that some of you are not yet experiencing the cooler temperatures of fall but here in Virginia, the temps are dropping in the mornings and the afternoons. Joe is starting to whine that he might not be able to keep taking his outdoor shower much longer. The neighbors might be rejoicing, however. Lol! This look today is a fall transition look that is getting me ready for the upcoming season. This cute waterfall plaid vest is one that I got c/o Cato Fashions the other day. I chose the navy vest with the red accents but it also comes in a couple of different colors. This is a very flattering style and the look will make you appear slimmer than you are. If you have never tried this style of vest, do yourself a favor and go try one on, you will be amazed at the effect. You can find this vest by clicking HERE and I am wearing a medium for size reference. If you can’t make up your mind about the size then I recommend sizing down. There is a lot of material and this does not need to button or close.50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO WEAR PLAID BUT NOT LOOK LIKE A LUMBERJACK | FASHION OVER 40 I only added my gold filigree Ciara earrings and the large gold cuff bracelet called the Muriel to this look. I liked the boldness of the cuff bracelet and I thought it mimicked the plaid design. Lol! Am I the only person who would have even thought of that? I think that with navy you can pick either silver or gold jewelry to wear, both look equally as good. I am just partial to the earrings and I look for every opportunity to wear them. They are showy, very lightweight, and make a big statement. Did I mention that they are only 10.00? If you are interested in either of these looks then go HERE and pick a party with my name in it. Have fun shopping! 50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO WEAR PLAID BUT NOT LOOK LIKE A LUMBERJACK | FASHION OVER 40Cato Fashion is all about denim this fall. They sent me these dark wash skinny jeans to try and I love them. I ordered my normal size and they fit great. These have stretch in them so the “skinny” part was not an issue. I worry when I see jeans that have skinny in the name that they will be too tight. If anything, I might have worn a size smaller. The detail that I REALLY like is that these are already cuffed for you. The cuff features a raw edge hem but this ankle length is perfect for wearing booties. You don’t have to worry if you have the cuff to the correct height. These are available in regular (here) and plus (here).50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO WEAR PLAID BUT NOT LOOK LIKE A LUMBERJACK | FASHION OVER 40 I have on my navy suede Marc Fisher peep-toe booties today. They look odd to me because it has been a while since I have seen myself wearing booties. It won’t be long until that is all that I will be wearing. This pair has been a favorite of mine for over a year and they are still available on QVC but they are limited in the colors and sizes. Go here to check them out.

  1. The jeans look great. Certainly good to have for the fall. Here in the UK along with a drop in temperature has come lots of rain. Already missing the fabulous summer we enjoyed. As for cooking, my hubby certainly did not marry me for my cullinry skills, if he had we would be like stick people. Instead he is head cook and what delicious meals he makes. 😊😍

My husband laughs all the time and said that he did not marry me because I could cook and clean but that doesn’t stop him from wanting me to do those things. Lol!

  2. I love plaid and this is a great way to wear it! I would get a lot of wear out of all of these pieces.

    • Tania Reply

Janet, I don’t normally wear a lot of plaids. I like checks but not plaid. That doesn’t make sense, does it? Lol!

  3. You wear the plaid well! It’s a great look. Did you know Cato does not ship to California? Do they think we’re a foreign country, or what? Haha!

    • Tania Reply

Connie, I did know that they won’t ship to California. I believe it has to do with all of the crazy rules that California has.

  4. What a cute vest…I added it and the jeans to my shopping cart but I better “think” on the jeans as I don’t own booties so have to think If I’d get much wear out of the cuffed jeans in the winter? I don’t cook much anymore either and feel sorry for my hubby sometimes. You mentioned your “diet” and this must be the one that you said you don’t drink coffee on it? I am drinking mine as I read and type this so I would miss my morning cup but I suppose you get use to it once you get away from it.

Sandy, first off, you need a pair of booties. Next, because these are skinny jeans, I will wear my knee boots with this pair. You are right about the coffee. I quit it when I went on this diet but it hasn’t been an issue for me. I was never a big coffee drinker and would only drink 1/2 a cup a day.

Oh wow, Tania, this is another rockstar look for you! That blue tee really makes your beautiful eyes pop, and that waterfall plaid and skinny jeans are so flattering! But those blue suede booties really top it all off perfectly! Love the Plunder jewelry too!

  6. Oh my gosh! THANK YOU for the win! I cannot wait to read the book. What a BIG surprise this was. Btw, I love how your blue eyes pop when wearing that blue shirt….

  7. I have just discovered Cato…thanks to you☺️ They have some super cute things and the prices can’t be beat! My 15 year old daughter was with me last week and fell in love with this vest I bought her the yellow and navy one. I may have to borrow it!

    • Tania Reply

I would borrow that in a heartbeat. That is when having a daughter at that age is great!

Love you’re blog! Never miss a day checking it out! What I would like to know is where you get all your v-necked T-shirt’s. I have an awful time finding food necked one’s that aren’t too thin or that don’t shrink when they are washed!

    • Tania Reply

Rhonda, most of my t-shirts come from Old Navy or Cato. I looked at the one that I had one but it was so old and faded that I couldn’t figure out where it was from.

  9. Jayne Finkbohner Reply

Absolutely love your vest, and didn’t realize till I got all the way through Cato logging in and getting an account with them that they don’t ship to California. I’m beyond bummed!! Will have to keep my eyes open to other sites!!
