50 IS NOT OLD | A PEASANT TOP FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40Today was one of THOSE days! Uggggh. It started with a phone call that led to another phone call and another phone call. None of them were calls that I liked. Then, on top of that, I got called into work earlier than I meant to be and I had a TON of stuff to do there. Dang, you would think they paid me or something. Lol!!! Anyway, I got everything done that needed to be done and I even had a few minutes to spare. Yep, I am just that good. Hahaha! That was Joe laughing, not me.50 IS NOT OLD | A PEASANT TOP FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40They say that when you are busy that the day will go by faster. I agree with that statement because I looked up and it was already 2:30. My stomach was starting to growl because I had left the house in such a hurry that I didn’t even eat anything for breakfast. By 2:30 I was in full out famished mode so my son ran to Subway to get us something to eat. I am not sure if your son is anything like mine but envision molasses and you have the speed he moves at. It might have something to do with the fact that I was starving but it seemed like it took him FOREVER to run 2 businesses down and pick us up a sandwich. I would tell you how I liked it but I gobbled it down so fast that I didn’t even taste it. Lol! Moral of the story, don’t skip breakfast and don’t send your son after your lunch. Do you think I should send that into the fortune cookie people????50 IS NOT OLD | A PEASANT TOP FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40At least I look like spring is in the air today. Remember the other day when I told you that I went to Old Navy and bought several things without bothering to try anything on? This was one of the outfits that I bought. This peasant top was the first thing that I picked up and put in my cart. I loved the colors and the relaxed fit. I like that it hits me below the waist because this year everything seems to be cropped and short. This is machine washable which is great for me. Also, this can be worn off the shoulder but I didn’t feel like putting on a strapless bra so I chose to wear it like this instead. The top also comes in a navy print just in case you don’t care for white. I bought a large and as you can see, it fits perfect.50 IS NOT OLD | A PEASANT TOP FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40The pants are also from Old Navy. They are what I worried about fitting me the most. I followed my own advice that I give you gurls and bought my normal size since this is a chino fabric. These are the Mid-Rise Pixie ankle pants in the darkest hour color. They come in several other colors also but I liked this one and I wanted to try them out before I bought another color. I haven’t washed these yet so I’ll have to wait and see if they shrink any. I hope not because they fit me well right at the moment. These have just a touch of spandex but not enough to have a lot of give. They are machine washable as well which is something that I look for.50 IS NOT OLD | A PEASANT TOP FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40My shoes are an oldie but a goodie. You will be seeing a lot of these shoes this summer because they are one of my favorites. This pair is by Michael Kors and they are an espadrille style. When I bought them I didn’t think that I would wear them over once or twice and instead I find myself wearing them with almost everything. They are incredibly versatile and very comfortable. To me, Espadrilles just scream SUMMER!!!

50 IS NOT OLD | A PEASANT TOP FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40Since today is HUMP day I am going to try to push all of you curious onlookers over the hump and see if I can’t get you to join me in my business. Hahaha! How did you like that analogy? I am serious though, I know that you are interested but I also know that “something” is holding you back. It could be a huge number of things such as money, time commitment, shyness, a small network of friends, not a salesperson, or any other host of things. BUT, if you don’t talk to me, then I can’t see if your fears are real or imagined. I am not going to try and talk you into something that is not a good fit. It doesn’t help you and it would only frustrate me. I am looking for motivated people who want more. You are the only person that can answer what it is that you are looking for. Here is what I can tell you, since Monday there has been almost 100 people look at the business. Email me at fiftyisnotold@gmail.com and hop on the phone with me. That at least helps me get more comfortable with talking to people, even if you decide against it, it is a real help to me. Thanks! As a sign-on bonus, when you buy one of the business kits then I will gift you this Spring Renewal set that is a retail value of 217.00 if purchased separately. It contains 3 of my favorite products from Rodan + Fields. These are all FULL Size and they are AH-Mazing! The doctors have said that if you could only use one product for anti-aging that it should be the Intensive Renewing Serum.

I really appreciate all of the shares and the pins of my outfits that you have been doing. PLEASE continue to do that, you won’t believe the difference it has made in my number of visitors to my blog.

  1. You look so spring fresh! The colors and proportions are really nice and complementing on you. The outfit would look good with a blue blazer for cooler temps, too.

Diana, a blazer would be easy to put on over this top. Actually, later in the day as it got cooler I did add a cardigan over the top.

Tania – this May seem very odd to you, but I’m contacting you to let you know that I read your blog often. I appreciate your candor and openness.
Now to the strange part – My mother passed away yesterday of a sudden heart attack. She just turned 85. I just wish she had been more open to new adventures and life in general.

Brenda, I am so sorry to hear this. I know that we are not promised tomorrow but we always think there will be time. You are right in the fact that we need to “live” life and be open to adventures. I will say a prayer for your family.

  3. Totally love the top!!! I hate the boxy ones that end at my waist. I have too much weight to lose by summer so I need full on camouflage to hide in until I get my waist line under control. The little flutter sleeve is adorable! Glad you brought spring with you today! It’s still in the 30’s here so I’m on layers again. Have a great day…I always look forward to your posts! You make my day start off on a good note! Best…Kathy

Kathy, I think camouflage is my middle name. I have gotten pretty good at hiding my flaws (which is good) but it would be nice to get rid of them instead. (that would be better) Lol! I hope Spring breaks out for you soon.

  4. I need to get to Old Navy as you are finding such cute things. The two pieces looks so nice together. I personally don’t do pheasant tops as I feel like they are falling off my shoulders and I always want to pull them up higher. We finally had a beautiful day yesterday and the snow melted in our yard. Another nice day today so I doubt I will be dressing up too much as it will be yard work for me…I should ask you…do you dress “up” for yard work 🙂

Sandy, you wouldn’t have a problem with this top. If I want it to fall more off my shoulders then I could untie it but when left tied, it is fine. I even have on a normal bra with this top and you can’t see it.

Thinking spring! I love the top, makes me happy just looking at it! The shoes are fabulous too. Thanks for pushing me towards spring….yikes, now I need to lose weight!!

Wow, you are an amazing sales woman! 100 people in a few days! Cute spring outfit!

  6. Isn’t it funny how a pair of shoes that you think, “eh, they’re cute and on sale…I’ll wear them a few times,” become a go-to shoe!?!?!? That’s such a good yellow!

    • Tania Reply

That is exactly how I think, Brandye. If I can get one or two wears from them I consider it a success especially if they were cheap. Lol!

Hi Tania, I am in Southern California, so spring is in the air most of the time. I love the top and sunny yellow shoes. I saw where you visited Coronado. Bring those shoes on your next visit. What a perfect shoe for our sunshine. 😊

Absolutely love your style. I am three years older than you and it is great to find fashion for women our age where we can look fun and flirty instead of dowdy. Pinned a whole lot of your pics to pinterest yesterday and today and also went shopping and purchased some of the same jeans from Maurices and Old Navy. I guess I need to go back to Old Navy tomorrow and get this top. I was more focused on finding jeans then tops. LOL

Yay!!! Sherrie, this makes me very happy! I love helping other ladies my age feel better about themselves!

  9. Love your springtime look. Yellow just screams daffodils, forsythia, and spring to me. I have never worn yellow, but am tempted to get some yellow accessories after seeing your espadrilles.

  10. You’ve done it again…made me think of wearing something that I have never ever had any intention of wearing. Yellow shoes! You look smashing in that pair.

  11. Hi Tania, I love this outfit. I have a question please for any of you. I really like Old Navy but they tend to use rayon for many of their tops and dresses. I am allergic to dry cleaning chemicals so I try to hand wash or use the gentle cycle on my washer for rayon yet it always shrinks. I know that many tops even from Nordstrom tend to use rayon. It always looks and feels great until it shrinks horribly after washing. I never use the dryer if I can help it, especially with rayon.
    Any ideas ?

    Thanks!

    • Lisa, I am large busted, so end up hang/air drying about 99% of my tops to keep them from shrinking. I do have rayon fabric tops, I use a laundry bag, like you would for any delicates. Purchased at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I’m sure you can find them online, too. I use Woolite, gentle or delicate wash cycle, cold water and then I either drape them over my shower bar or hang them on minimum plastic hangers, (never wire!). I have noticed a little shrinkage in some of the tops, that are pure or mostly rayon. Even with all my careful washing. Now, I pay attention to the amount of rayon and size up one size if it’s 100% rayon. Hope that helps.
