50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO INCORPORATE PATTERNS INTO YOUR OUTFIT | FASHION OVER 40Now you all know what poor pitiful Joe was subjected to the other day. Remember when he made the comment about my hair looking like our dog, Lucy’s hair? If not, then go here. Anyway, Lucy was a stray that was found walking along the railroad tracks outside my house. My SIL was visiting when she spotted Lucy outside. It took me three days to coax the little rascal to come to me and I can see why now since she is a very skittish dog. She is a mix-breed and the only thing that I can say for sure is that she does have some Yorkie in her bloodlines.50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO INCORPORATE PATTERNS INTO YOUR OUTFIT | FASHION OVER 40The other thing that I can say for sure is that she has motley hair. It is a curly, unruly mess almost all of the time. I can give her a bath and even when you comb her out it dries looking like a messy mop. Lol! On her, it is adorable! Because I had a headache for a couple of days I had not “styled” my hair. I washed it, combed it, and then let it dry on its own which is something I never do unless I am at the beach. I tried to scrunch it some to give it a little style instead of it just hanging in a mess but as you can see it wasn’t the best effort. I get a lot of emails asking about what products I use on my hair and the answer is NONE. So, I didn’t have any products to use to help my hair scrunch. When I walked in at work looking like this you could have picked Joe’s mouth up off of the floor. He gets to see me look like this but he knows that I don’t let others see me looking like this. Until NOW that is. Lol!!!50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO INCORPORATE PATTERNS INTO YOUR OUTFIT | FASHION OVER 40I love this old cranberry waterfall cardigan. It is quite a bit longer than most of the waterfall cardigans that I have seen in the stores. I bought this one probably 2 or 3 years ago at Cato’s Fashions and it a size too big for me. I end up having to roll up the sleeves all the time. Because it is an open front design, I can get by with a size larger or smaller than what I normally wear. Don’t be afraid to try on an item even if it is not in the size that you “think” you should wear. Remember, sizes are merely a suggestion for you to go by. Lol! The cranberry color is easier to wear for most people instead of a true red. So, if red is not your color then try a few other versions of the color and see if you can find one to suit your skin tone.

50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO INCORPORATE PATTERNS INTO YOUR OUTFIT | FASHION OVER 40My jewelry is sparse today. I have a pair of ivory stud earrings on that were part of a Plunder Posse set. The Plunder Posse is a subscription service that costs 25.00 (including tax and shipping) and you will receive between 1 to 3 pieces of jewelry each month. There is no sign-up or cancellation fee for the service. The pieces will ship out on the same day of the month that you enroll on. The Ennis bracelet has been one of my favorites this fall and winter. I love the vibrant colors in the bracelet and I like the hinged design. It makes it super easy to put on and take off this cuff. Final reminder……today is the last day to take advantage of the Plunder sign on bonus of 12 pieces of jewelry!!! Don’t let this opportunity pass you by. 50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO INCORPORATE PATTERNS INTO YOUR OUTFIT | FASHION OVER 40Caramel is my favorite color of leather. My couch in my living room is dark brown and I grieve for the caramel color instead. Haha! The Dooney & Bourke handbag is what I call, Old Faithful. I love the design because it is sectioned into three different parts on the inside and the color goes with almost anything. I don’t care for an open purse because I like to know that I keep my wallet in one part, my keys and headache medicine in another, and general items in the third one. If the purse is an open body type then I will add smaller wristlets and put items in those. I like easy access and I hate digging around in a purse trying to find something. Lol!

50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO INCORPORATE PATTERNS INTO YOUR OUTFIT | FASHION OVER 40I have a pair of brown pants on from Old Navy. I think they were pixie pants but they fit me larger than what my pixie pants normally do so I was confused. The tag says pixie so I am not going to argue with them but they fit like the Harper. Go figure! I normally wear a 10 in pants size (that’s what they say they are) and if I buy the skinny version or the spandex version then I will size up to a 12. I think they must have miss sized this pair because I have not lost any weight. Here is a nice pair of pants from Old Navy in the skinny version and in the boot cut version. 50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO INCORPORATE PATTERNS INTO YOUR OUTFIT | FASHION OVER 40I chose to accessorize with a lightweight scarf instead of a necklace. I had a headache and some necklaces hurt my neck if they are heavy. The scarf I have on is made of gauze and it doesn’t weigh much at all. I love the Burberry print without the price tag. If you want the real thing then click on the link below. I think a scarf makes a huge statement to an outfit and they are very inexpensive, or at least most of them are. Lol!

Your hair doesn’t look bad! I like the outfit. It looks comfortable and warm!

Yay!!! I can start commenting again. When I am running a giveaway I try m=not to comment because I let SIRI pick a random number from all of the comments. If I comment then it messes with the numbers. I love your positive outlook on my hair. Lol!

  2. Love this outfit and I think your hair looks fine! You are so lucky not to have to use any products in it. I need to use something for body as my hair is stick straight. Cute story about Lucy.

It drives my hairdresser crazy that I don’t put anything on my hair. She is so used to adding products to everyone’s hair. Lol!

      • “most” of us need products to get our hair manageable OR to stay in place…you are lucky. Now…to get you to do a hair tutorial on how you blow dry and style your hair 😉

  3. You look lovely. I do the same thing with my hair when I don’t feel well. I always feel with hair products that my hair feels dirty. I rarely use anything besides hairspray. I love the cranberry outfit and especially the scarf! It is the right touch without a necklace! Best…Kathy

Thanks, Kathy! I am like you, I only use hairspray to hold it in place. My hair is so heavy that if I don’t use hairspray then it falls in my face.

  4. Tania, your hair is adorable! Sometimes it is a blessing to have curly hair and sometimes a fight, but you have to embrace it! If you put nothing in it, you are blessed. Love your outfit, those tan pixie pants have broken me out of my “black only” routine.

Mary, my hair is not curly enough to be curly but to curly to be straight. Lol!!! Congratulations on being the winner of the Vivi necklace. It is heading your way!

Your hair looks good this way also. I love the long cranberry cardigan and the Burberry-like scarf with it.

  6. Hello Tania. You look lovely. I love the colors and the scarf ties it all together. I must find me a scarf like that. How you are styled today looks like my look exactly and I love it. Glad you are feeling better.
    Blessings… Carla

Hello! I am new to your blog and so far (2nd day) I’m loving it! Unfortunately, I have ZERO style. I wear t shirts and jeans everyday to work and for church I wear pants and a sweater. I have no idea what to put together and am hoping and praying that immersing myself into your blog will help with that. I love your hair! My hair is just a darker version of yours. Same exact curl, body and heaviness. I am 52. Recently lost 100 lbs and even more recently gained back 30! Its so hard!! So finding clothing that makes me look like a female, hide the 30 lb gain and be comfortable in what I am wearing is what I am trying to learn. I hate to shop! I would rather take a beating. So that makes finding clothing that looks good on me tough. But I am trying to do it, one day at a time. Thank you for being a great teacher 🙂

You have beautiful wavy hair! A lot of women style their hair to look like yours. 😃

  9. I have very fine thin hair😞. I could not live without my volumnizer😊. Cute outfit for changing weather. 60 degrees yesterday but they are calling for 4-6 inches of snow tomorrow! This outfit would fit both days for me.

I love your blog. I shop a lot at Cato Fashions so I enjoy seeing that you posts some of their clothes. I also enjoy seeing some Plunder jewelry. I have a few pieces and love them. It is nice to see items from places that are affordable. Also love the stories as well. Have a wonderful day.

  11. Good morning. I’m pinning this outfit even without an incentive. Love the colors. My kind of look. It’s back to cold & rainy here so a sweater and boots is called for today. Think I’ll try it. 😊

Cute as always! I’m so glad your sister spotted Lucy…What a blessing! I’ve been keeping our new German Shepherd baby in our house until it warms up and he gets bigger. I’m exhausted working with the house training…Pulling my hair out, so I don’t need any product ;-D

  13. Love this outfit. Great color for your skin tone. I like the purse to. Don’t me started on hair, have lots of products I’ve used on mine for natural curl days and for straightening. One thing for sure spending extra for Wen Shampoo has been the best money spent.

  14. Ok, GURRRLLL, I just became a PC under your name! I’m still chicken and only ordered lash booster so that I can have lashes like yours!!

    • Tania Reply

Julie, I can’t wait for you to have lashes like mine. I hate that a Lash Boost only doesn’t qualify for the Microdermabrasion Paste incentive but I will still send you some samples of that product. You will love it too.

  15. Love your hair! So cute. And there are some lightweight products to encourage the curl if you want this as an any day option. My hairdresser helped me with it.

  16. Your last picture in this post made me laugh out loud!!! And you’re adorable with scrunched hair – don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

  17. I like this outfit Tania! I know exactly what you mean by having heavy hair, my hair is super thick….I only use hairspray too, my grandson Evan always teases me about my “crunchy hair” as he calls it….when he gives me a hug…lol….
