50 IS NOT OLD | PASTELS FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40Joe and I traveled to Richmond yesterday and it was so gorgeous along the way. The sun was shining, at least most of the trip, and the temperatures were in the HIGH 70’s. It is crazy to think that this is February. I know that the cooler weather will strike again but it is so nice to dream right now. I looked out the back door and saw that my big Weeping Willow has green leaves starting to pop. I am just thrilled at the thoughts of spring!!!50 IS NOT OLD | PASTELS FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40We stopped on our way up at a scenic overlook that overlooked the Shenandoah Valley. Oh my goodness, it was so pretty. We took a couple of pics but since he had a meeting at 2:00 we didn’t have time to tarry long. Richmond is on the other end of the state from where I live. It was a 6-hour drive up there, the meeting, and then another 6-hour drive back. We are getting good at these type of trips it appears. The last time we pulled one of these was when we took our daughter to Atlanta to catch her plane back to Alaska. That was another 6-hour there and back. I keep telling myself that “50 is not old, 50 is not old,” but my butt keeps saying, “this trip is too long, this trip is too long.”50 IS NOT OLD | PASTELS FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40I loved my latest shipment from the Trunk Club. I ended up keeping several things and exchanging a couple others because of the sizing. This top by Vince Camuto is perfect for the upcoming Spring weather. I like the tiered ruffle sleeve and the super soft material on the top. However, the light lilac color is not the best for me. I feel washed out but it could be because I am white as a ghost from being in the house all winter. As soon as I saw these pictures I went and put on some sunless tanner. lol! This top does come in several more colors like light blue, light pink, and a sage green color. The trend that I am seeing is going shorter and boxy for tops. As long as they are not a CROP-show your belly-top then I will be alright.50 IS NOT OLD | PASTELS FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40I love the Carmen necklace for summer. The color of the beads are so pretty and then the cute small tassels are just icing on the cake. This necklace is adjustable from 18″ to 21″. The key and tassel bracelet is no longer available but the turquoise key Lauren earrings are still in the catalog. These beautiful items can be found by going to plunderdesign.com/taniastephens and picking a party that has my name on it. 50 IS NOT OLD | PASTELS FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40I thought that these platform espadrilles were cute when I bought them at the end of last summer. I had a tan back then and they had to look better than they do against my pasty white legs. I am not so sure now but I’ll wait until it gets warmer and I can wear them with shorts. Since they are almost the same color as my legs a tan would have to help.I have to admit that the tassels on the top are what really sold me on the shoes. The brand of these shoes is Isaac Mizrahi. They have a leather upper and a cushioned sole for comfort. And, btw, they are on sale!50 IS NOT OLD | PASTELS FOR SPRING | FASHION OVER 40My pants are a printed pair of Pixie Pants from Old Navy. I bought these at least a year ago, maybe longer. Honestly, they are not my favorite pair of pants because the colors are muted. I normally like a brighter color palette. I do like printed pants though because they give you so many options to match a top to. This pair that I have on is mostly in shades of purple and yellow.

  1. Very cute and spring-like! Still in coats, boots and gloves for awhile yet in Canada where I live but this gives me hope for spring! You live in a beautiful state!

Janet, I am taking advantage of every day that it is warm because I know that it won’t last.

  2. Lovely colors for spring! Spring is hopefully around the corner but right now it’s snowing here in Ohio. I keep telling myself I’m not old but sometimes my body isn’t listening!

I was so happy to have a couple of warm days but I see colder weather in the forecast. 🙁

  3. My hubby and I traveled from Cincinnati to Mt Rushmore last summer. NEVER again will I go that far in a car. Love the blouse. The sleeves make it. I don’t care for long sleeves with bells because they get into everything but the short sleeve may change my opinion

That sounds like a LONG trip! If you can have an adventure along the way, stopping and exploring, then it can be fun. But, if it is one of those drive and never stop kind of trips, then it is miserable.

Envious that you are able to wear spring clothes already! You look pretty! Please send some warm weather my way, lol!

  5. So Tania…are “flowered” print pants going to be the thing this spring? I’m going to have a hard time stepping out of my comfort zone first with ankle pants and then flowered to boot….LOL Love your purse. I’m not good at long car drives but you are right, if you stop along the way to help break up the trip that helps. I want to trade weather with you…they are talking here in Nebraska, 2″ today and another 5-7″ on Saturday. NOT spring weather for sure.

I have those same pants! I bought them on your recommendation and love them. I like them with the lavender too but like you, I’d need a shade darker. Love your posts.

  7. I love the touch of spring lilac top and pixies! Denver went from 72 degrees on Sunday to – 8 on Tuesday and -13 on Wednesday. I might have to start shopping at Nordstrom!

Tania I think lilac is a nice color on you, and printed pants perfect. The shoes are cute and neutral but in my opinion just a little off for this outfit…. maybe too chunky. Cute flats like the ones in picture of dark print pants in a different color.

  9. Another great outfit today! Looks fresh and happy. I too am looking forward to spring, but we woke up to 4 inches of snow and a school delay. We needed the moisture desperately so I’m not complaining. Looking outside it’s hard to believe spring is a month away. Enjoy the beautiful weather! Have a great day.

  10. I love pastels and you look great as always! I live in the northeastern part of Florida. It’s supposed to be 82 today – in February! It’s already buggy! I predict it’ll be a very hot summer! I was enjoying wearing my boots and sweaters. Have a great day everyone!

Ooh, I love, love this pretty Spring outfit! Yes pale colors arent the best on us pale blondes, but its beautiful the way youve styled it! Cute necklace! Im glad you got to take a trip w your sweetie thry those besutiful mountains! And yeah, Spring is on its way!!

  12. You look great. Love the lavender top..so flirty & feminine. Love the pants on you but probably not on me. Altho I wear printed capris! Go figure.

You may think you’re pasty white, but I’m always that color! So I think you are normal! I only burn & am in pain & then the color disappears. And I had chemo years ago & I’m even MORE sensitive to sun & get really sick.So not direct sun for me. BUT…I have really nice skin from no sun exposure. So there’s that! 🙂

  13. I LOVE that outfit! It will be a long while until spring really arrives here in Manitoba, Canada but I can dream. I too love the bright colours on my fair skin but you have inspired me to try some pastels and see how it looks.

Cute outfit, but I agree lilac is not the best color for you. Love the pants.

  15. This is an adorable outfit on you. I have a top that color, would love to have a cute printed pant. Thinking spring too. I am thinking about the Cherry Blossom Festival coming in our nation’s capitol the end of next month. I’m following their bloom development on their facebook page, Cherry Blossom Festival. It’s so lovely.

  16. Tania, great outfit. The trip sounded long but beautiful. I am going to check out the Trunk Club. I like how you said you can return whatever and even send some stuff back not from that current Trunk. As I woke up to 18 degrees out today cropped pants and flowered pants not on my list yet. But you have given me ideas again. I could wear that working with the children.
