TALK TO GOD

TALK TO GOD

I am always in awe of someone when they say, “God told me.” I envision God speaking to them in the same way He did to Moses. I envision God speaking in a burning bush. Maybe God spoke to them in their dreams or sent visions to them. How did they know that “God told them” to do something?

One of my favorite Christian authors is Beth Moore. I love her and I am doing a devotional from her right now. However, it is her video that I watched about an old man with wild unruly hair in an airport that I think about all the time. In the video, she says that she and Jesus were having a conversation. She even went on to say that he was “bossy.” The whole time I am listening and watching this video I keep thinking how wonderful it would be if the Lord talked to “ME.”

I know that I am not Beth Moore, but the Lord loves everyone. So, I started to think about ways that the Lord might be talking to me, just not in a physical voice. Is the Lord my conscious? Is He that little voice I hear in my head telling me to give a donation to the person on the street? I think of that as compassion and not the Lord moving me to do something. Is He that “feeling” you get when you just “know” that something is wrong. I thought that was intuition.

So, I got to thinking about ways that the Lord “might” be talking to me and I am just passing it off as something else. One of the first things that come to my mind is when I go to church and the Preacher is delivering his sermon. As I sit there I feel like he is preaching to ME. I feel like he knows what I am feeling and that he made that sermon just for me. I am friends with my preacher but he doesn’t know my mind and “he” doesn’t do a sermon based on me. But, the Lord knows me! The Lord could be speaking to you through other people. How about when you read a book or watch a television show that “speaks” to you. Is the God?

Does the Lord speak to you through dreams, visions, or even that little voice in your head? YES! YES! and YES! It is so easy to ignore the message that we might be receiving if we don’t know that it is from God. My best advice would be to ALWAYS assume that it is God, at least that way you won’t miss His prompting. My grandmother had a prompting once. We were traveling down the road when I was very small, around 5 years old. She saw a comet streak across the sky and felt like something was wrong. She made me get in the front seat and out of the little compartment that I was in the back seat. Shortly after that, we had a wreck where we were rear-ended. The little compartment was crushed but I only ended up with a bruised chin.

The one place that you can go to and KNOW that the Lord is talking to you is the Bible. The Bible was not written by God but it was written about God and inspired by Him. 2 Timothy 3: 16-17 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

As I go through this week I am going to concentrate on “listening” to the Lord. I am going to try to not do so much talking but instead let Him talk to me.

Have A Blessed Sunday!

  1. Thank you for your message. I am often skeptical of people who continually say that God spoke to them. What am I missing and why does He not speak to me….Scipture I know is God speaking to me without a doubt but my conscience or intuition….I have been wrong before. I too am going to concentrate more this week on how God is talking to me…..thanks and blessings from a sunny and hot South Africa. Shirley Crawford

  2. Amen!! Thank you Tania for your encouraging words of how God can speak to us. I have watched that Beth Moore video and it is hilarious. She is outstanding in person as I went to one of her conferences in Greensboro, NC many years ago. Enjoy your Sunday. ~Lisa~

  3. Thank you for your post. Pray that you will hear God as he speaks to you and the He will give you courage and strength to do what he says. From a fellow sister in the Christ from Australia

  4. Wow!! I so needed this! I too had the same feelings when someone would say God spoke to them. How wonderful that God is using you to speak to us! Such a blessing.

  5. Be still & know that I am God- I sang it at church camp & with our kids, but need constant reminders to do so. Why is that? Are we really so easily distracted?🙄
    Blessings for your week ahead.

  6. Thanks for another great post! I too have someone in my life who regularly says Gold told her this and that. I’ve always felt “less than” because I don’t have those same experiences. However, I’ve come to the same conclusion as you that God does speak to us all.day. long. In the smile of a child, the breeze whispering through the trees and all those promptings to bless others. And I’ve thought I’d rather have God speak to my concscios than an audible rebuke! Blessings on your day!

  7. Wow!!! I just started regarding “How to hear from God” by Joyce Meyer. I am considering a job change that will pay me less and I will have to pay for my health insurance, but I will have more free time. As of now I feel tethered to my job…. and I drive 45 minutes to get there! I am hoping God will provide some insight! I guess we will have to BELIEVE in Him to instruct us and EMBRACE His guidance.

  8. Happy Sunday Tania……I believe your message this morning was just for me! I too know when God puts something in front of us or sends us some kind of message through someone or something, he wants us to listen to him. So much of that has been going on in my/our (husband) life within the past few months……i.e. We get a letter from another state but our house is for sale in a different state for them wanting to come and look at it to buy, that’s God! Thank you for your daily posts and letting us enjoy Style, Family and God with you❤️🙏🏻. Holly~

  9. Happy Sunday Tania! Loved your column this morning! I feel this way especially when I am at church and a hymn touches my heart! ❤️Have a blessed day!

  10. Well said…may I add this? I have learned that when I hear or see some message, Bible verse or statement that lines up with God’s Word three times within a short time frame, that is often God wanting to make me stop and pay attention to Him on that subject. Again, I want to reiterate, only if it lines up with the Bible do I recognize it as coming from Him. Sometimes, it is even a song with a godly message that lines up with one of my devotionals that day.

  11. Tania, I agree with you that it really is God speaking to us in all of those ways that you mentioned, as well as through scripture. I also will be “listening” better this week so I can hear Him better. Thank you for this reminder.

  12. Thank you so much for this writing today. I have always thought about how God speaks to me & maybe I should slow down & listen more. I too, believe that it’s God speaking to us in the small voice we think of as conscious… I need to do a much better job of listening to my “conscious”. Thank you for the inspiration.

  13. Thank you Tania for sharing this today and reminding me to listen. I also believe that God speaks to us in many ways. Have a wonderful Sunday and God Bless.

  14. Beautiful Tania! From my experience, God speaks to me quietly thru scripture, friends or thoughts and feelings while I’m praying (like w your Grandma)! Its That “still Small Voice” when you allow the Holy Spirit to walk W you everyday. Its Warm and windy here today. Hope you got that heater fixed! Thanks for making my day yesterday! And for encouraging us, making us laugh and grow everyday!

  15. The same book and chapter of the Bible kept coming up for me, four of the verses in the the same book kept popping up in different places! After reading and querying about what this all meant, I realized that it was the answer to a prayer that I had prayed. Another time it was in the strangest ways and in three and in Bible related ways like Debbie mentioned that I feel that God was talking to me. My takeaway from all of this is that He is talking to us every day and sometimes in peculiar ways if we look for Him and listen. I am learning!

  16. What a interesting post! The reason being and I have had that very topic on my mind. Wanting to follow his plan not mine. But how do I know. I often say to him…Gosh, I wish we could do coffee and you could just tell me what I need to know. I know the video you are talking about, it’s great. I am hoping God talks in his way to all of us!

  17. Another great book to read is by Priscilla Shirer, Discerning the Voice of God; How to Recongize When He Speaks. Thanks for sharing Tania!

  18. Thanks Tania !! I know he speaks to all of us but sometimes we are so busy we just don’t pay attention. Reading my devotional daily keeps me listening. I am reading Billy Gram morning and evening devotional. Hope you have a wonderful week!

  19. Priscilla Shirer is doing an online Bible study beginning January 18th about Discerning the Voice of God. I think it’s through Lifeway…..

  20. You are so right! God talks to us and sometimes we are not aware of it until you start thinking of what happens. I so believe he is with us and I’m like you always the one doing the talking! I also need to stop and listen. Thanks and hope you had a great Sunday!

  21. Somebody told you to do this post…I bet God had something to do with it. God has given you this blog and you are doing great things with it. You are an encourager, a friend, and a spokes person for God. Sometimes God works and talks through other people. We Christians are filled with the Holy Spirit so those voices definitely are from our Lord! Thanks for sharing, Dear Sweet Lady!

    • Thanks, Melesa. I feel like an imposter sometimes on these posts. I am struggling to be closer to God. I don’t want anyone to ever think I am an expert or even know what I am talking about when it comes to the Bible. There are so many people who know way more than I do. The Lord has given me this platform and I do the best that I can. I am a believer, I am trying, and I love the Lord with all my heart.

  22. God talks to us in a multitude of ways and it’s not always what we think. It’s not always the obvious, audible voice. Thank you for pointing that out.
