Thank you for commenting on Saturday’s post and for the side dish recipes. I already tried one with cucumber and tomatoes, it was delicious. I am serious when I say that I need to drop 20 pounds but I want to do it in a healthy way. I have tried low carb, vegetarian and vegan, clean eating, and a host of other diets. I loved each one and I lost weight on each one. I am looking for something that will stay with me for more than a couple of months. I want something that will become a lifestyle and not a diet.
A couple of Sundays ago I did a post about letting FEAR control your life. I was amazed at the responses that came from that post. It led me to believe that we all have fears and we let them get the best of us. One of the fears that I mentioned was the fear of failing. Patti, a blog reader and friend, commented that she had read somewhere that f.a.i.l. simply stood for the first attempt in learning. I loved this analogy but it got to me thinking about how much we let this keep us from achieving our potential.
I recently started reading another devotional by Mark Batterson called, Chase The Lion. When someone recommended this book to me I was intrigued but when I found out that it was by Mark Batterson I immediately downloaded it to my laptop. His books are so inspiring in a “get up off of your butt and do something” kind of way. So far this book has not disappointed me.
In the first couple of chapters, he talks about Orville and Wilbur Wright. Orville had become sick and was stuck in bed for a long period of time. Wilbur read to Orville while he was sick and the book he chose was the mechanism of bird flight. Wilbur had become interested in the how of flight and he was passing on this interest to Orville. I can not even begin to imagine how they even thought it was possible for a man to fly but I am glad they didn’t let the impossible get in the way of the possible.
They had a dream. A dream that most of us would have told them was silly and would never happen. They had a dream and in spite of no real knowledge or experience, they persevered. They were not afraid to fail which was a good thing because they failed a lot. The failed so many times I am sure they probably lost count. But one day in 1903, for all of 12 seconds, the little airplane took flight.
What if they hadn’t dreamed? What if they had been afraid to fail? The same holds true of Christopher Columbus, and many others who chased their dreams in spite of the failures that would come. I know the Lord has great things in store for you and me. I know He wants us to step outside of our comfort zones and try new things. I also know that we will have failures but the ones who learn from those failures are the ones who learn to fly.
Do you have a dream? Have you let fear or apathy keep you from achieving what you were created for?
Ephesians 2:10 says,
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
What has God prepared you for? Do not stop dreaming, do not stop trying, and do not stop failing. First Attempt In Learning.
Have A Blessed Day!
The other day when I told you that I had nothing to talk about someone commented that I could talk about dinner and it would still be entertaining. You know that I took that as a challenge, right? So, let’s talk about dinner or supper, whichever you call it. Here at my house, the two words are used the same and they both mean the meal we eat after we get home from work.
Do you notice my little friend? This morning when I went out to take my pictures I noticed this little Katydid beside my fern. Thanks again, Charlcy, for the ferns, I can’t believe they are still alive. Lol! Anyway, once I saw the Katydid I was immediately transported back in time. Joe and I lived in Lafayette, Georgia for a little over a year. Lafayette was about an hour and 15 minutes from my mom and dad’s house.
It has been a gorgeous day today and even though I sat inside at work it was still pretty great. I did get a lot of work accomplished and for the first time in a while, I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. My stack of work on my desk is slowly dwindling and I hope to actually be able to see the wood of the desk before long. Lol! Since I was feeling so good about all the work I had gotten done I decided to reward myself.
Since I started the blog I send out a ton of mail. I mean the old fashion snail mail that we all grew up with. I mail out giveaways at least once a month for the blog, I send out samples almost weekly for Rodan + Fields and I send out discount checks all the time. Occasionally, I will mail a package to Canada, Australia, and even Great Britain. I guess I have been blessed because I have never had an issue until now.
I know almost every one of you have said, “I should have just stayed in bed today.” It was that kind of day and I knew from the minute my feet hit the floor that it was going to be that way. It came a huge downpour on last night and although I love to sleep when it is raining, the dogs do not want to go and do their nightly “business.” I opened the door knowing what was going to happen and sure enough, they walked out on the porch and stopped. Beckley even looked back at me like, “You go out there if you want but I am staying right here.” Haha!
What do you talk about when you have nothing to talk about? I could just show you my pictures and tell you about the outfit but where would the fun be in that? Lol! I guess I will just tell you a short story about my father. Sunday was his birthday so I have been thinking about a lot of the things we use to do when I was a child. I have wonderful memories of growing up but recalling then can sometimes be a challenge. Lol!
This is a blog about fashion. It was created to help women who reach a time in their lives when they feel discouraged and invisible. They might have spent their adult lives caring for others and now find themselves with an empty nest and no idea how to take care of themselves. I thought that by helping these women see that they could once again find confidence in their appearance that they would feel better, prettier, and more confident.
I soon realized that helping women feel better about their outside was important but what about the inside? What about the person who had been told they weren’t good enough? What about the woman who had been told that they weren’t loveable? What about the person who was told that they were not pretty? The list could go on and on.
The real truth is that you ARE good enough, you ARE loveable, and you ARE pretty. The problem is not with you the problem is with the person spewing the lies. I am not saying we are perfect but I am saying that the opinion of the Lord is the one that matters and not someone here on earth.
Psalm 139:14 says, I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
The Lord made YOU. He breathed life into your soul, He created your body, He knows every hair on your head. Do you think He considers you imperfect? The Lord created the entire universe, the heavens, the stars, and He also created you. We marvel at a beautiful sunset, the power of Niagra Falls, or the breathtaking view of the Grand Canyon. All those things are breathtaking but none of them were made in the Lord image.
Genesis 1:27says, So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
I know that society judges us by our outward appearance. The Lord does not. The next time you see a beautiful sunset just remember that the same God who created that sunset also created YOU.
Have A Blessed Day!
I have been on cloud nine for hours now. Friday was sooo much fun for me and I am still dancing around. While I was in Alaska Ashleigh and I talked a lot about Rodan and Fields. Last October for her birthday she asked to become a consultant. I bought her the kit and she loved the products but never really tried to work it as a business. She just wanted to get a jump on taking good care of her skin since she was still in her twenties.
