I have been reading the daily devotional by Sarah Young called “Jesus Calling.” I like this devotional but I have started noticing how many of the devotions are devoted to worrying. Obviously, this must be a trait that many of us share, I thought I was by myself. I struggle with being a worry wart and I even worry about worrying.

On March 16th the devotion smacked me a little. It said this,

Don’t take yourself so seriously. Lighten up and laugh with me. You have Me on your side, so what are you worried about?

That says it all, doesn’t it? Worry will weigh us down until we feel overwhelmed and helpless. I have a little suction cup stuck to my window that has this saying hanging from it, “Worrying robs today of its happiness.”

Did you know there is a difference between worry and concern? Worrying does nothing, concern makes a plan. Worrying is debilitating and causes you to give up hope. A concerned person will persevere and pinpoint the problem. “I have no money to pay my bills” versus “I am not going to have enough money to pay the bills this month. I better sell something.”

But what if the problem is out of your control? What if there is nothing “you” can do to help the situation? How do you handle those situations? Call out to the Lord, whisper His name, lean on Him.

Psalm 18:2

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Psalm 46:1-2

God is our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.

As usual, I am writing this message for me. I will be flying on Monday and returning on Saturday. I really hate flying and a lot of the reason is a lack of control. I cannot control the maintenance of the airplane or the competence of the pilot. I cannot control the weather or the other passengers that will be onboard the plane with me. Worrying will solve nothing. Concern only lets me check an airline’s safety rating and choose one that has a good record. Calling on the Lord to be with me and to deliver me safely is the path I am choosing. He is my rock, He is my fortress, He is my deliverer.

Please say a small prayer for me as I travel this coming week.

Have A Blessed Day.

OMG! I JUST finished reading today’s reading in Sara Young’s Jesus Calling, and then I get your post on worrying! Something I have been working on! Can’t do anything about the past or the future! And you are so right; it can sure rob us of happiness in the present. 😊

(P.S. It’s “Its” in your title, not “It’s.” Can’t believe the graphic is even wrong!)

Thank you Tania!!!! I always think of the scripture in Matthew 7 about the birds not worrying. When my youngest son was younger I taught him that scripture and said….do ya think the birds are going around saying….chirp..chirp…chirp….We can’t find a worm. So if God will take care of the birds and the lilies of the field….don’t you think he will take care of us (his children) too? I know first hand that’s easier said than done. So when I start to worry I think about what I taught my son. I prayed for a hedge of protection around you and will continue too. Have a wonderful trip. ~Lisa~

Very true indeed, we waste so much time in our lives worrying about things that will likely never come to pass and we of course worry on behalf of others safety and happiness but that is love for you! I travel often for business and I HATE it, nothing glamorous or fun or exciting about it so totally get it. Bring something with you that gives you peace, for me is a ring made out of a tie pin that belonged to my Grandfather whom I adored! If he is with me nothing bothers me. Happy trails and enjoy your adventure!

God had to have led you to
deliver this message to me today!! I am also a worrier, and end up with a lot of anxiety from it. I’ve begun reading my bible during my extra 20 minutes before work each morning instead of checking my facebook and let me tell you how much more it helps me start my day and get through my day! I worry less and know I am a much nicer person to be around! Prayers for you and all of us to stop worrying and put our trust in the Lord, and for safe travels for you Tania ❤

I have a friend who has told me that worrying is a sign of our sinful nature. We do not rely completely on God’s wisdom, guidance and perfect will. We do all that we can and leave the rest up to Him. God bless.

Tania – I am such a worrier too! I love your post and I also have the book Jesus Calling and I love it! I also just recently bought God’s Words of Life for Women and I read from both daily. I am trying really hard to stop the worrying because it doesn’t change anything.
Have a great trip and I hope your flights treat you well!

Now every morning when I’m reading it I will be thinking of you and the other ladies who posted that it was their daily reading, it will feel like our own prayer group. Praying for travelers grace and care for your upcoming trip and looking forward to hearing about all the fun things you’ll be doing with your sister. Try to stay out of trouble ……Haha

You mentioned this book a while back so I bought one for my sister who really enjoys devotionals. I also bought one for myself and THAT was a true confirmation of the Lord at work — you see I ended up needing major surgery and this devotional got me through it in so many ways! I was the one who needed this beautiful devotional — so thank you, thank you, thank you, Tania! I’m so glad to have found your blog and this wonderful book!!

By the way, while I was in the hospital several people commented how much they, too, love this devotional!

I needed this today. I also am not a fan of flying but have decided if I wanted to see other parts of the country and world I had to get on a plane. I have found the more I fly the easier it gets but hate turbulence. When I get seated I pray for the flight crew and the plane and on those on board with me that it be a smooth and good flight and thank GOD for being with us on our journey. Enjoy your trip.

Tania, while I certainly enjoy your daily blog with style tips (I might add you have helped me more than once), I thoroughly look forward to your Sunday writing with your thoughts and words of wisdom. It feels like it’s just one “gurl” talking to another. Aren’t we all worriers? Yes, I, too, am a worrier and I am at my worst when traveling by air. I say a rosary and cross myself every time before getting on the plane. I hate, hate, hate turbulence. It’s so invisible and feels like something MUST be happening–none of it good. The actual flying doesn’t bother me but the worry of the unknown and what COULD happen almost terrifies me to death. Having reread the book The Shack and seeing the movie recently, it really brought home that by worrying I am not truly living in God or letting Him live in me. I must remind myself constantly to sit back and let God take control. Prayers for safe travel and an awesome week.

Tania, I feel your fear cause I’m exactly the same way! I HATE airports & flying. Weird people sitting too close, what if the pilot is sleepy, sitting in the airport for hours while they try to fix a mechanical problem, the airport changing the gate every 10 minutes…Once as my Mama was dying in E. Texas I was running thru the DFW Airport barefooted (cause my flip flops kept falling off) since they’d changed the gate w/o telling us & it was all the way across the airport while the shuttle was broken! (And that was the day AFTER the EBOLA person had been in the DFW Airport!!) Then my Mama died while I was on that plane flying to Shreveport. It was HORRIBLE! Prayers for your peace & safety!
