50 IS NOT OLD | STYLE WITH A SMALL WARDROBEYou gurls are the sweetest things. You leave such great comments for me, they are always so encouraging. Even when you are critical, you do it in the nicest way. Lol! I had a fellow blogger email me the other day and one of her comments were, about how much participation I had with my readers. That was the highest compliment one blogger can give to another. Thank you gurls for following along.😘50 IS NOT OLD | STYLE WITH A SMALL WARDROBEI did a video recently of my closets. If you did not see those, then go here. I try to wear different items daily, but you should know that is almost impossible. I do own A LOT of clothing, but still, it is hard to wear something different every day. Someone emailed me that I had saved them a ton of money since they had started following my blog. They said they could now take items in their closets and re-work them into new outfits. 50 IS NOT OLD | STYLE WITH A SMALL WARDROBEToday I decided that I was going to take that comment as a challenge. Everybody does not have a huge wardrobe or space for a large amount of clothing. If that is the case, then you need to take the same articles of clothing and make them appear different. For the rest of the week, I will be styling this sweater and pair of pants. I am pretty sure everyone has a sweater and a pair of pants, they do not have to be gray and maroon. It is not about the color, it is about making them look like you have a bigger wardrobe than you actually have.50 IS NOT OLD | STYLE WITH A SMALL WARDROBEThis sweater is one that I bought either last year or the year before from Old Navy. Old Navy is a great place to buy lightweight sweaters at an affordable price. I wasn’t sure I would like the sweater, I am not a huge fan of the waffle knit look. However, this does add some visual interest and texture that a plain sweater does not.

50 IS NOT OLD | STYLE WITH A SMALL WARDROBEI took this Plunder set with me to Livingston over the weekend. My cousin is having a Plunder party, so I loaded up all my jewelry (really heavy) and took it for everyone to look at. They couldn’t get over how nice the jewelry looked in person compared to the pictures in the catalog. My mother even bought this necklace set. I need to do a video so that it would show the sparkles. The entire pendant is covered in rhinestones and so is the pyramid that the tassels hang from. The matching bracelet and earrings, (not the ones I am wearing) are the same way.50 IS NOT OLD | STYLE WITH A SMALL WARDROBEThe earrings I have on are too cute. I couldn’t believe how big they were in person. In the catalog, these look tiny….  They are made in a knot style with rhinestones all over. These are probably the most popular earring by Plunder right now, they keep selling out. 50 IS NOT OLD | STYLE WITH A SMALL WARDROBEI have on a tank top with a lace bottom that I bought at Maurices. I have several different colors of this style top, they look great in the summer and you can wear them under jackets or sweaters all winter long. The top just gives some interest to the outfit.

The dark maroon or burgundy pants are an old pair that I bought at TJ Maxx. I love this pair because they are the perfect color for fall, I have worn them and worn them.

50 IS NOT OLD | STYLE WITH A SMALL WARDROBEThe gray studded shoes are by Sole Society. I bought these last year around this same time. I like them because you can wear them all year around.
50 IS NOT OLD | STYLE WITH A SMALL WARDROBECheck back the rest of the week to see how I style this differently.

  1. Hi Tania, whilst I admire (and want!) most of the outfits you put together, this is probably something that I would actually be able to recreate and wear on a day to day basis. I love to ‘dress up’ but don’t get that much of an opportunity however, I like to look smart and well presented, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how you style these items. Outfit number one gets a big tick!

    • Tania Reply

I think of my style as dressy casual. I work in a lumber company, so I don’t “dress up” big time. My look is somewhat casual, but usually dressed up with accessories.

      • Leslie Nigh Reply

I just love your style. I love how you put together a great look. I want to be you when I grow up.

  2. Absolutely love this post Tania – compared to almost anyone else I know I think I have one of the smallest wardrobes out – plus at present seem to wear far too much black – am trying to think of a coloured outfit in my mind for today 😉

This weekend I was super lucky to be allowed to style my competition winner at the Zalando pop up store. You might like to check out the outfits chosen it’s a fun post with a guessing game at the end:

Yvonne, you ALWAYS look great in everything you wear❤️

    • Bernie McIntyre Reply

Hi Tania just bought jeans that colour and would never have thought of grey to go with it love it 😄 I can be a bit “matchy matchy” (not exactly a word but you know what I mean 😉 👻 🎃

      • Tania Reply

I use that same phrase all the time, Bernie. My son coached at a school where the colors were gray and maroon. I pair these two colors together often.

    • Tania Reply

I hope everyone likes the small changes in the look.

  3. Hi Tania I am from South Africa and I love your blog. It took me a while to find a blog about fashion that I could relate too. Your clothes are easy to wear but also always looks so put together. Love it.

Linds, you don’t know how much I appreciate your comment. Joe could tell you that looking “put together” has always been my goal. I had a boss whose wife always looked so nice and put together, and I envied her look. Thanks for making me smile this morning.

Good Morning Beautiful!! After seeing your closets, I do not feel bad about myself because my closets look just like yours! I am working on organizing them a little bit better though! You are the best….have an absolutely wonderful day!!

  5. Doreen Bednarski Reply

What a great idea to restyle this outfit all week. Wonderful color combination and thought the jewelry was a perfect accent until you said rhinestones, sorry, not a fan. However, the complete look is a hit and can’t wait to see the remaining genius ideas you have. Sounds as though this will be a great help to many of us.

    • Tania Reply

I need to take a video, Doreen. The rhinestones are small, so you don’t get that big “bling” look going. But, you get the shimmer and shine which is very eye catching.

  6. Hi Tania- you forgot to tell us about your bag. I have been looking for a bag just like that. Could you share info? Thanks! Lisa

    • Tania Reply

Lisa, I didn’t actually forget. The bag is just one I picked up around here and it is a no-name variety. I liked the style of the bag and the color, so I bought it. I don’t always have to have a name brand. This bag was only 40.00 and I have already carried it multiple times.

  7. You hit the mark today! Love this look!! Such a great idea to give us mileage in our closet, I wanted to order your necklace and earrings. Are they available? If you could give me their names that would help. Also, does your hair dresser call your cut by a certain name. My is cut similar but I like your cut better. You always look so pulled together effortlessly. What a talent you have! Enjoy this gorgeous day, Your friend, Connie.

    • Tania Reply

Connie, the necklace is called the Joey, the bracelet is the Selena, and the earrings that match this set is called the Aria. The knot earrings I have on in the photos are called the Mason.

There is no name for this cut, I wanted a subtle change in the style I was wearing and we just changed things up a little. I go again on Thursday to get it cut again.

      • Done. I placed my order. Thank you for your help. My first order. I am anxious to see items in person!

  8. Is that a GILI bag from the QVC outlet? I bought that bag in cream snake two years ago and I love it!!
I can’t wait to see what the rest of the week will bring! Enjoy your day 🙂

    • Tania Reply

No, it is not a G.I.L.I. bag, but it is in the same style as several of their bags I already have. I bet the cream snake bag is adorable.

  9. You look wonderful! What I great challenge! I can’t wait to see what you do and I need to try to do the same. I love the bracelet you did’t name, what is it?

    • Tania Reply

The necklace is called the Joey, the bracelet the Selena, and the matching earrings are called the Aria. The earrings I have on in the photos are called the Mason.

    • Sorry, not the bracelet that matches the necklace the other one. Thanks, Pat

  10. Thanks so much for today’s pic. I actually bought velveteen pants yesterday in that exact color. If anyone is looking for a similar color & style they are from Old Navy & the new Pixie ankle pant. Now I have an idea of a different color combo for them. I was surprised how many things I have that they will coordinate with. Looking forward to the rest of the weeks ideas.

  11. Your style always inspires me. The idea of lace peeking out is a new concept for me but I’ve recently purchased some pieces from LOGO and am just stepping out of my comfort zone with them. I am going to duplicate this look this weekend. So cute and relaxed looking!

  12. Lanita Anderson Reply

Love this cute fall outfit, Tania! And am so looking forward to how you restyle it every day! I tend to be “matchy matchy”, or I find an outfit that looks good together and I never experiment or change it. Looking forward to seeing new combinations, styles & textures. I have similar pieces for this outfit, but flipped – I have gray pants and a burgundy sweater – I may just put that together today! 🙂

  13. Yay! I’m so excited for this styling challenge, since pants and a sweater or top are my go-to work wear. You’ve inspired me to branch out in my outfits AND my accessories-LOVE Plunder! I own 4 of their necklaces as of now, got my eye on others too! Yours is the first post I read every morning before heading off to work-thank you for all of your inspiration!

  14. I love this look. I especially like the lace peeking out from under the sweater. It’s amazing how your jewelry really dresses up the outfit too. You make me want to try harder on my look for work.

  15. Kelly Rudie Reply

Hi Tania! I love this outfit! I actually have been working on doing the same with my wardrobe and have been surprised how many different ways I can mix and match my clothes. I also found an app called Pureple that helps with this. It is great so you don’t forget the items in the back of your closet. I’m great at putting colors together but don’t always remember what I have, this is a great tool. Thank you so much for your posts!

    • Melanie W. Reply

I didn’t know about this app….I’m downloading it when I get home! Thanks for the tip!

  16. Melanie W. Reply

Very fun! I’m excited to see what you do with the sweater all week!!! And I probably had about 10-12 of those Maurices tank tops…I pretty much wore them out so I got rid of them and have now re-stocked with two new ones. But I probably need more…..haha.

  17. Patti Collins Reply

Love, Love, Love this outfit!! Love the color combo, jewelry, and lace. And I have seen those shoes ads on FB and always wanted to order them. I might just have to break down and do it! haha
On the jewelry, if you want to host a party do they just order from online?
Would be awesome if someone was in my area that could bring samples.
I think that makes a huge difference, especially since I usually don’t have much luck with “selling” parties. haha
    Anyway, great post. thanks!

    • Tania Reply

Selling is hard! The problem with the jewelry is that it doesn’t photograph nearly as nice as it is. I can send you some catalogs if you are interested in doing an online party. Your customer just logs into your party and orders. They pay online and it ships directly to them, so you do not have to deliver and collect. Let me know if that is something you are interested in doing. fiftyisnotold@gmail.com

This is a great idea! I am trying to thin out my closet to a degree, as my hubby and I hope to DOWNSIZE in a huge way within a few years. He keeps telling (teasing) me that I will only have two dresser draws for my clothing!! I like the idea of using different accessories and you are so great with your posts on how to do that. I am interested to see your outfits each day this week..!!!

  19. I love your blog, also! I’m a retired teacher who dressed ‘dressy casual’ every day for years! I love to dress up, but have no where to go everyday….. Walmart doesn’t seem to care how I dress…. Anyway, what I love most about your blog is that you use clothing from common/small town type stores. My town has close to 30,000, but we don’t even have Old Navy, although there is one in a nearby town. We have a Belk/Penney/Cato/Goody’s and TJMaxx. I usually buy home products at TJmaxx, more than clothing. I have always shopped more at Belk, but have begun to find things I love in Cato. One of my former students ‘styles’ the mannequins in the store, and has assisted me! Looking forward to seeing what you do this week with the sweater and pants!

  20. i placed my order. I’ve had my eye on the Quincy for my daughter’s Christmas present and this offer was too good to pass up! Thanks!

  21. You are stylin Girlfriend! Fantastic outfit, love the lace peeking out. Never thought to use a tank with lace trim to layer under a shorter top. Thanks for the idea!

  22. Hi Tania, I have been meaning to comment on this for some time & decided todays the day. 🙂 I love looking at the different fashion blogs but yours is the one I can most easily relate to. Like you mention in your post not everyone has a large fashion closet either in space or money wise. What I really love is that you wear brands that are more readily available to the average women. Old Navy, Cato, TJ Maxx, etc. While I love seeing some of the more high end fashions. My wallet doesn’t stretch that far. So its nice to see that you can go to a department store & find clothing that is not only wallet friendly but on trend.

    • Tania Reply

Thanks for following Teresa, and taking the time to comment. I like high-end fashions, but I also hate seeing my money wasted when I can get a comparable item for less. I fork over the money when I feel it is warranted, but not just to wear a brand name.

  23. You look lovely in this outfit! The pieces all go together so nicely!

  24. Marilyn Baran Reply

Where did you get your navy hobo bag? I didn’t see it mentioned in your post.

  25. Love this idea of restyling pieces! Since you’re getting quite a bit of free stuff lately, do you feel obligated to write a good review of everything you get?

    • Tania Reply

No, I don’t really feel obligated. I turn down lots and lots of offers. Some just don’t suit my style, some are not reputable companies, some are products I would never use, and some are just too costly. I try hard to only accept items from companies that are things I would and could buy myself.

First time I have replied. I just found you on-line and really enjoy reading your posts and seeing your pictures. I put together an outfit over the weekend with a few of your tips and got fresh compliments. Thanks!!!

Hope we gurls don’t age out of your blog. I just turned 63 this month. I feel younger because I have these delightful young friends who just happen to be my three daughters and they keep me on my toes!

I shared your post from Sunday “DO NOT COMPLAIN” on my Facebook page. Thanks for the insight!

    • Tania Reply

Don’t you just love compliments:) It is nice when you put together an outfit, and someone mentions how nice you look. I try to remember that and compliment others. Thanks for sharing my posts. I hope that they will reach someone in need.

  27. Thank you for taking the small wardrobe challenge. I am sure you will do a fantastic job of styling that sweater. It is a great neutral. I am sure it will be a natural fit with many other pieces you currently own.

  28. Such a cute look! Simple, stylish, and looks very well put together! You always nail it, Tania!

  29. Mindy Hayes Reply

Tania, I love this look, you look great in it. I especially like the lace showing from the sweater. I wish ON still had this sweater, I really like it. I am not really a sweater person but if they are light and ste sleeves aren’t too long they are ok. I also really like the shoes.Oh and you are so right about the jewelry. That necklace is very pretty which doesn’t look near as good in the catalog. Sure wish I could have gotten more people to realize that when I was having my party. Maybe we can try again in the spring?

  30. I really like this outfit. The touch of lace is perfect. I would never have thought of that. I have a similar sweater, but my maroon pants are still too tight for styling just yet. I can’t wait to see the ways you change this up.

  31. Funny you should post this today! I work in a high school and in remembrance of the Sandy Hook victims we are wearing green on Friday. When I opened that email early this morning I thought I don’t own one green thing so it’s time to go shopping! Then I thought ‘what would Tania do?’; shop that closet! Well, believe me, I own plenty of green. I put together a bright green 10 year old Talbots boyfriend sweater and a blue and white check shirt from Marshall’s. It’s payday Friday and we are allowed to wear jeans so I may go with another Talbots item and wear dark washed straight leg jeans. My WWTD mantra has helped me to pull together so many outfits! Thank you!

    • Tania Reply

Linda, that sounds like a GREAT outfit! I am so glad that you giving me credit, but it was all YOU. You bought the items, and you are the one that has chosen to put them together. You may have to change your mantra to WWLW. Lol!

      • You are the inspiration! I tend to be very monochromatic but seeing your color combos gives me ideas. Thanks!!

  32. Love the idea of this challenge! You always come up with such great ideas that almost everyone can duplicate. I just bought a pair of maroon pants so this is another option of how to wear them.

  33. I live in Europe, one wardrobe for everything. What a relief to actually limit choices. Amazing how far you can go with a black suit, dress and a pair of jeans.

  34. What is thename of the other bracelet you have on? Not the Plunder bracelet. Love this whole outfit.
