50 Is Not Old | DreamsI was skimming through a new book that just came in, and the author was talking about dreams and plans. There are some people who make plans and meticulously put those plans into action. And then there are some who just seem to go wherever the current takes them. In reading the dreams of the author, I caught myself thinking that I was over 50 and I was just too old for making new plans. WHAT!!! Did I even read my mantra? Age is an attitude, Keeps your young!50 Is Not Old | DreamsOkay then, after telling myself to stop being ridiculous, I started thinking more about dreams. I am a pretty simple person, I don’t really want for a lot of things. I have a nice car, a nice house, and as you all know, I have plenty of clothing. Traveling has never really been my “thing.”50 Is Not Old | Dreams

But what if you COULD go and do, what if you could have anything you wanted? Am I really that simple, or have I just started settling? I have never made a bucket list, I never liked that name. But, I could make a few suggestions for a “Dreams Really Do Come True” list.

  1. Visit New York City
  2. See the Aurora Borealis
  3. Appear in a magazine advertisement
  4. Own a pair of Charles Louboutin
  5. Celebrate my 50th wedding anniversary50 Is Not Old | Dreams

These are just a few things that come to mind to give you an idea of what I am talking about. I read about this person who for their job, had to change their password every 60 days. It was a real pain to try to remember the new password, and she was fussing about it one day. She decided to do an experiment the next time. Newly divorced and still bitter, she wanted to let go of the bitterness. So her first 60 days password was “forgivejohn.” She said after having to type to forgive her ex-husband for 60 days, she actually did forgive him. So they next time she changed her password to “goonacruise” She typed “go on a cruise” for 60 days and she started making the plans, and went on the cruise. I think you can see where this is heading. She took a pain-in-her-side problem, and instead made it a life-changing experiment.50 Is Not Old | DreamsI picked a strange topic to talk about with this outfit. Even though I paired the grays with yellow, the whole look of the outfit is still a little dark and gloomy. Maybe that I why I chose and uplifting topic. Or maybe what I was really wanting to change was this outfit. Haha Anyway, I will start with the positives. I love these yellow espadrilles by Michael Kors. I wore them in this post, which is one of my very favorite looks.

Espadrilles: Vince Camuto | Charles David | Nine West50 Is Not Old | DreamsMy yellow, white, and gray tie blouse is an old one. I don’t wear it real often, I prefer an open neck look. The tie makes me think of a business suit for some reason. I think this look would work in most office settings, you could wear long pants if your office does not allow ankle pants. These are black pixies from Old Navy. I am just shocked at how many of you had never shopped at Old Navy. They have a wide array of clothing and it is very reasonably priced. It is the less expensive and less quality version of Banana Republic.

Yellow & Gray Blouse: Floral | Tunic | Blouson
Black Ankle Pants: Old Navy (ankle) | Old Navy (long) | Old Navy (Plus)50 Is Not Old | DreamsThis charcoal gray jacket has 3/4 ruched sleeves. It is several years old, but I still like the way it looks and feels. It must be something about this jacket, the last time I wore this I talked about dreams also.

Jacket: Similar | Similar (Up to a 4X)50 Is Not Old | DreamsI know several things I would put on my “Never Gonna Happen” list.

  1. Skydive
  2. Dive with the sharks
  3. Sing in a Broadway Show
  4. Climb Mt. Everest
  5. Hold a Tarantula

Of course, I never thought I would have a blog and wonderful readers either. And, my sister probably never thought she would be a published author. Dream, plan, and remember that “age is an attitude.” What are some of your Dreams Really Do Come True items?

  1. I love the color combo and the shoes. I dream of living in a small cottage with a water view. And chickens. I love chickens.
I have held a tarantula. Her name was Susie. 😊

My brother had a tarantula, but there was no way I would have gotten anywhere near that thing. I am terrified of spiders, even the small ones. Haha

  2. Thank you for Today’s blog topic. Inspired me to begin developing my own list. It was just what I needed to start my day on a positive note.

  3. Thank you for sharing. I thought I was the only one that has never made a bucket list. I still need to get to Old Navy and check out there pant section. I always thought Old Navy was more for younger people. I remember the first time my girls and I went to an Old Navy store. We were visiting relatives in California. (The year was 1999) The girls went nuts over all the fleece. Did not think we were going to be able to fit everything we bought in our luggage for the flight home. Have a great day!

Crystal, this made me laugh. I have had my fair share of those kind of shopping trips.

  4. Absolutely awesome post! I love your thinking and the outfit. Now I’m off to change a password. 🙂

Sharing on Facebook today at Poofing the Pillows.

  5. Great look! I like the tie top on you. Looks classy. I have dived with sharks……neat story. I was a little scared, but it was an amazing experience. Love your blog!

Lori, it sounds like you and my daughter would get along fine. She LOVES sharks!!!

You are the start of my every day! Thank you for your thoughtful posts. Today’s outfit looked very pulled together. Typically I dress rather boho, with a classical twist. People compliment that I’m not afraid of color, and warm, earthy tones suit me. That being said, the goldenrod in your blouse and shoes are awesome.

    I turn 60 in July!😜 I feel like I’ve got a good 40 years in me.😎

  7. I think this would be a perfect workplace outfit. You have such a knack for pulling all the pieces together and coming up with a great look. Yes, I think whatever we focus our attention on (good or bad) can come true, whether you call it dreams, prayer, the power positive thinking, manifestation or whatever, so it’s important to focus on the good in life. 🙂

  8. I love reading your posts .. But today was just the kick in the butt I needed ! Thank you for helping me get back on a positive track 😀

    • Tania Reply

I am sitting here laughing, trying to envision me kicking you in the butt. Hahaha

  9. I am inspired this morning by your post Tania, thank you. It is so easy to get bogged down with all the obligations and commitments in our lives it’s easy to lose focus on what makes us smile. I don’t think your look is dark and gloomy at all – the yellow in your shirt and great wedge shoes is the perfect balance to the darker colors. Well put together.
Make sure to come on over to SHOE AND TELL on Style Nudge and link up your great look, especially those yellow wedges!

Thanks Cherie, I am really going to have to start making time for link-ups. I love doing them and yours is always so much fun.

  10. Love the password story! I’m going to use that idea.

Also love the post on dreams. I’m a natural born dreamer and my mother used to worry about my head being in the clouds too much. But I think we were all born dreamers. Glad you are thinking about yours.

Dreams come in all sizes and types. Sometimes it seems we might expect dreams to be these big, huge deals. If the dream suits the dreamer and causes us to stretch a little–it’s probably the right one.

As usual, love your outfit. Classy with a little sass.

  11. You need to check out bus trips to NYC from your area. Abbott Bus in Roanoke has a $99 trip, they pick you up about 11pm on a Friday night, you ride all night, make a stop in the morning to “get ready”, then they drop you off at the Empire State building around 10am. They pick you up at the same place around 10pm or on Broadway a little after. you ride all the way home that night and are home Sunday morning. Surely Bristol or Johnson city has something similar.

    • Tania Reply

I have every opportunity to go to NYC, but I just never seem to find the time. Maybe that is what I will ask for this year for mine and Joe’s 30th anniversary. That sounds like it would be perfect!

  12. I am going to change a password today….heck maybe all of them!!
And I am so with you on the never gonna happen list….you’ve listed all of my major fears!

  13. Terri Gonzalez Reply

I love, love the outfit, but then I’m a conservative retired banker. I especially love the shoes and will add finding them to my bucket list. Yes, I do have one. I started my list when I turned 55 and was looking forward to retirement. I have accomplished very few things on the list, but a girl can hope! Thanks for your blog! First thing I open every morning.

  14. I love your messages with fashion – it’s a 2 for 1 blog – inspirational with fashion tips. My new password is “calla friend”

  15. This is one of my most favorite outfits that you have posted. My morning jingle. “The best part of waking up is Tania in your mail.”

  16. I usually don’t post….. but I so enjoy your blog and your outlook on life. Reminds me every day to step it up and never give up!

I really like this outfit. With the yellow/gold it looks like spring in northern MI to me. We are just getting buds and flowers now so our landscape is a mix of these colors.
I like the password idea and the focus it brings. I’m planning a 6-week trip to Europe for late summer and fall this year so I’ll be crossing off all kinds of items on my bucket list. 😊

  18. Love your blog! (As a retired English teacher, though, I can’t help but correct your grammar.) 😊 BUT, love your fashion-sense, humor, and inspiration! I have already copied several of your outfits! Would you share the name of the Dream Book? Sounds great! Thanks!

    • Tania Reply

You must stay really busy, Knella, if you are correcting me 😆 Would you like a job??? Lol!

      • Tania Reply

I’ll look at the book when I get home and let you know the name. It was another book by the Draw The Circle author, but I don’t remember which one.

  19. In my former life as an educator I was a goal maker. Each year I taught I tried to achieve another goal. In retirement I love bucket lists too. My husband and I have crossed off a few things but most include travel which includes planning and finance. I love your blog. It reminds me to continue to dress well even if I’m not working anymore. Now I dress for me!

  20. Along the lines of forgiveness — I was told one time that if you didn’t like someone to pray for them, because it’s hard to dislike someone you’re praying for!

  21. What a coincidence the top of my BList is a trip to NY. I wanted to be Holly Golighly when I grew up. Interesting to read today’s blog, I’m in the card carrying LOL stage of my life now and I realize that I’ve drifted along most of my life and not really had dreams or goals. I’ve had a good life for the most part, but am feeling that I’ve wasted time too. Things to think about .

  22. Gina D from McKinney Reply

I agree with other commenter about the password. What a teriffic idea!

  23. As an instructional specialist, rather than a classroom teacher, I meet individually with my students to set goals at the beginning/middle/end of each school year. It truly makes a difference.

I like the outfit as a work outfit. I agree it’s a little dark for spring, but whatever suits the mood/weather of the day, right? Maybe white or light gray pants? I also agree about the high neck thing. I have a similar shirt and I usually tie it loosely and not button all the way up. But, you may not be able to do that with yours…just depends on how it’s made.

  24. What a great message! I love the idea of the password! You look lovely today-that blouse is beautiful!

  25. Lisa C in Dallas Reply

This did make me chuckle. I’ve always said (well, since November 21, 1987 when I married him) that my husband dreams out loud. He just says whatever. We joke that whenever I say something I’ve thought it through, planned it, financed it, etc. I think somewhere in the middle is probably healthier. I’m like you — I have everything I “need” and as long as I can buy pretty fabric (I’m a quilter), go see our son (8 hours away) several times a year, and buy fun shoes (always), I’m content (in worldly things). It does do us good to stretch and reach a little – go outside of our comfort zone. I would never – wear only black pants (I don’t think I own any), grow my hair long (it’s FINE), live with my father-in-law (enough said), or hold any type of spider. I would enjoy – going to Ireland or Australia, seeing the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade live, never having to shave my legs ever again (and therefore I’d wear a lot more dresses), and learn to fry fried chicken like my grandmother.

Great tip regarding passwords!! It is so hard to try to come up with new ones 😊
    Love your blog!!

  27. I like that outfit, it has a sophisticated look! I linked to your site in my post today. Hope some of my readers stop over to see your fun style. I’m working on my dream list…my highest priority is a home on the waterfront!

    • Tania Reply

Thanks Dixie!!! And a home on the waterfront sounds like a small slice of heaven:)

This is one of my favorite of the outfits you’ve styled. I work at a bank and this would be perfect and comfortable for work. It looks great on you!

  29. I am glad to see that traveling is not your thing either. I have lots of friends who travel but I would rather go to a nice hotel where I can relax have a spa treatment, read ,enjoy life and have a good glass of wine

  30. Patty Wheat Reply

I love the top and jacket mix. I will tell you that I have a Bucket List and I actually like it because it helps me decide the next country to visit.

  31. I love the way you can put clothing together & get a great look.
