The Post Where My Sister Takes Over My Blog

50 Is Not Old | Blog Takeover Lisa:

When Tania first asked me if I wanted to post on her fashion blog, I was a bit confused. It could be because she’d just called me the day before to say that if she saw one more picture of me on Facebook wearing black with black and also black, she was going to come to my house and burn my clothes. Then she explained. SHE would be handling the “fashion” part of the blog.  I would be in charge of the “writing something and make it good so that you don’t bore my gurls or I will come burn your clothes” part. Seriously, I don’t think she likes my style.50 Is Not Old | Blog Takeover

Since my sister has been telling stories on me, I thought I would tell you about my earliest memories of her. NOW she’s a wonderful, caring and compassionate individual, but when she was ten? Cruella Deville!50 Is Not Old | Blog Takeover

I was a sweet, loving, super-cute five year old who sadly, was afraid to sleep alone. Every night I would go into Tania’s room and beg her to let me sleep with her. The answer was always NO. I would go out into the hallway and wait for her to go to sleep, then I would crawl back into her room and slink into her bed. It almost never worked. She would sit up and insist I leave. I would beg and plead, and FINALLY she would say that I could sleep with her, but I couldn’t touch her. We would argue back and forth until we’d negotiated a happy medium. I could only touch the back of her nightgown. So there I would lay, curled into a little ball, my cute hands gratefully clutching the back of her gown until I went to sleep. She thinks it’s funny, but even in my twenties, I would wake up to find myself in a fetal position with my hands curled around the comforter.

Seriously. Could I be any cuter?

Future fashionista and her adorable little sis.

What makes it worse was SHE was the reason I was scared to begin with! Since she was older, she was always going to movies then coming home and telling me about them. Movies like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre where the killer may still be running free. Or Carrie and the prom/blood bath. And it wasn’t just scary movies. She introduced me to songs about terrible tragedies that made me afraid to ride in a car -Tell Laura I Love Her, or date someone in the military –Billy Don’t Be a Hero. The worst had to be when she brought home a book about Charles Manson! If you are glad he is still in prison, you can thank me. That was my prayer every single night of the 1970s!

Lucky for me, she did get a TINY bit nicer as she got older. Now the scariest thing she says is, “I’m going to take a picture of you in that outfit as an example of what NOT to wear.” I’m glad you gurls enjoy her. Where were you in 1972??

50 Is Not Old | Blog TakeoverTania:

Now, it’s my turn to take back over the blog. I am wearing a top that I bought last year when I went to Florida at the Prime Outlet Mall. It is a taupe colored top by Van Heusen. It has two layers, the taupe bottom layer, and a thin sheer topper. The embroidered top layer is what makes the top.

50 Is Not Old | Blog TakeoverI have had this purse for a couple years. It is one of my favorites. I like carrying in the fall as well as the spring and summer. It is by Michael Kors, and it is a linen material with the dark leather handles. The gold in the chain and on the name plate, make it look nicer.

Purse: Tom Clovers | Dooney & Bourke | Bluefly50 Is Not Old | Blog TakeoverI really have got to buy another navy linen blazer. This one is getting so faded. It is an Ann Taylor, and you have seen me wear it before. I like the length on this, and have never found the exact one to replace it.

Blazer: J Crew | Kohl’sPlus50 Is Not Old | Blog TakeoverThe palazzo pants are from Cato’s and I bought them when I went to Tennessee earlier this year. I have worn them once before, and this time I decided to style them a little different. I like the feel of these pants, they are a crepe material. Unfortunately they are no longer available on the Cato’s website.

Palazzo Pants: Chico’s | Zappo’s50 Is Not Old | Blog TakeoverI hope you enjoyed today’s guest post. I am off helping with a vintage fashion show for my woman’s club today. And by the way, don’t feel too sorry for my little sister. This is the same sister that announced on the school bus one day that I wore “days of the week underwear” and I had on Wednesday. She is also the same sweet sister who went to my class when I was in 5th grade, and announced in front of the entire class that I would not be at school that day because I had diarrhea.

Love your posts, love your style. I get color inspiration from you and it helps me think of new combinations in my wardrobe. Thanks! I wish your links would ship to Europe 🙂 Admiring you from across the ocean.

I never think about a store not shipping to another country. I know my daughter in Alaska has issues a lot with that same thing. If they do ship to her, it is for an outrageous price.

Daphna, I just found out about a shipping service that I’m checking out, called my us.com. Kohls ships here, and I think others do as well because you give a US address, then they ship out for a cheaper rate. (Supposedly!) like I said, I’m checking it out!

Hi! Like Daphna, a previous poster, I live in England (I’m from Los Angeles but married an English “bloke” 14 years ago) and love your blogs! I still do most of my clothes shopping in the US when I visit yearly, believe it or not. I just cannot find the styles and value here that I like. I loved your bracelets from an earlier post, Jewels of the Vineyard. Keep up the fun posts!

I’m a little sister so I understand the situation, lol. Outfit looks great! Regarding the blazer that you feel is faded have you thought about dying it navy again? I have done that with pants that I could just not find the right fit again to replace them and they faded. Just a thought if it is a dyeable material.

The diarrhea story made me literally laugh out loud! Reminds me of a dear friend’s grandson….called her and said “Nanny, I had the dia-rivers today”. Love your blog!

How funny. I don’t have a sister and when I read stories like this it makes me wish I did. But … I did have 2 brothers – one older and one younger. We are all very ckose. And I have to say I probably did things to my little brother you did to your sister. Lol. Note I said “probably” – I’m not admitting to anything. Lol.

But …. my husband makes up for my not having any sisters – he has 11! Yikes!

I absolutely LOVE this outfit on you. It’s gorgeous and looks comfortable too.

    Have a blessed day.

I also have a little sister that snuck in to sleep with me. I walked her everyday to first grade while she cried and begged me to take her home. She says she was preparing me for my career as an early childhood educator!
I love your style and stories. So glad I found your blog!!

Funny, funny post. Sisters. Thanks. I hope you post pictures of the vintage fashion show. We are going to use that for our Ladies Tea Theme next year at our Church. Today was this year’s tea. Lots of work and now I am exhausted.

Just reading this as we were traveling over the weekend. BUT ROFL!! Love the sister stories! Keep them coming. I’m the “bratty little sister” as mine is 13 years older than me. And I used to sneak into her room as well, even wetting HER bed once. HA!

The top is so pretty, BTW.
