ANCHORS AWEIGH

50 Is Not Old | Anchors AwayWhat can be more fun that taking a trip on the ocean in a sailboat? I can just hear the captain saying, “anchors aweigh.” The gentle rise and fall of the ocean waves, beautiful sunshine, listening to the seagulls, and feeling the gentle breeze on your face. I have never been in a sailboat, but this is the image that comes to my mind. 50 Is Not Old | Anchors AwayHere however, is the picture my sister painted for me when she was on her trip to San Diego. A beautiful sunny day, just perfect for taking a small sailboat trip around the harbor. There were only four of them on the boat, besides the captain. They set out sailing and everything was going smoothly. When the captain asked if they wanted to head out to open waters, my sister answered, of course. She said that since she was in her 50’s and this was her very first time on a sailboat, she wanted to get the full experience. After all, who knows when the opportunity would present itself again.50 Is Not Old | Anchors Away

So off they went, but as most of you know, it is a little rougher in the open waters than it is in a harbor. Still, everything is going pretty good till the wind quit blowing. No wind equals a boat that is stopped dead in the water. The sun was beating down, and soon my sister began to sweat. Then the feeling of nausea started setting in. Thinking it was from the sun, she asked for a Sprite hoping to settle her stomach. But that did not seem to help, so she told the captain they had better start heading back to shore. The captain checked for some sea-sick medicine, but there was none to be found.50 Is Not Old | Anchors Away

One thing about a sailboat is that they are not necessarily very fast. In fact when the wind is not blowing, you have to tack back and forth. The nausea was getting worse, and then her worst fear soon started. She felt the need to “go” to the bathroom. If there is one thing us women hate, it is having to “go” in public, and this was very close quarters. She was trying to keep her eyes on the horizon, the only view that didn’t make her want to hurl, and trying not to give in to the urge to “go.” Sweat soon started breaking out all over her.50 Is Not Old | Anchors Away

Finally the harbor was coming in sight, but the sun was starting to go down. But being a little wet from the sweats, it was time for the chills to begin.  She made it to shore, just in the nick of time, and rushed straight to the bathroom. I know I shouldn’t have, but I belly laughed throughout the entire story. I really thought I was going to lose it when she said, “And I had on white pants.” Let’s be real, would that really have mattered if you had just “went” on yourself. Lol! I told her I was going to write about this, and she said go ahead. I can’t help but think the answer would have been different if those pants were not still white. Haha

50 Is Not Old | Anchors AwayBecause I was a little long winded in my story, I am going to talk about the outfit a little differently. I will tell you where my items came from in this paragraph. And down below I will have either the exact link, or a similar one. After doing a 5K walk on Saturday, I didn’t feel like getting all dressed up. So I thought why not just do a casual outfit? Starting from the top, I have on a black v-neck, short-sleeve, rayon t-shirt from Cato. The necklace I have on is part of the Girl’s Best Friend from Premier Designs. The light distressed Boyfriend jeans are from Old Navy, probably from last year or the year before. The purse is a retired Stella & Dot called The Switch. My shoes are gray Converse sneakers, with a cute white polka dot accents. My bracelets are By The Book bracelets, and I wear these ALL THE TIME!50 Is Not Old | Anchors Away

    1. Haha You can see why I am not the writer in the family.

  1. Cute outfit! Glad your sister made it back OK. It’s wonderful to have a sister to laugh with isn’t it? I have four and we laugh a lot!!

  2. Oh, your poor sister! It was such a funny story and I am glad she didn’t mind you sharing. Adorable look – the black tee is the perfect background for your fab necklace. Adoring the cute polka dots on your Chuck’s!

    1. Jennie, I thought you would love the polka dots ?

  3. That story is hilarious! Cute outfit. I love a black t-shirt with jeans…or a white one. Have a blessed day.

  4. Love the casual outfit! Thank you for the hilarious story to get us going on a Monday!

  5. My DH is an avid sailor, so since marrying him, I’ve sailed more times than I can count. The worst ‘sick’ is to be sea sick and know you’re not even close to shore. My horror story is reading a book on the lake with new bifocals (Great Lakes, not little lake) and realizing I was getting sick from it. Too late. It was a long hour back to shore, and I was sick all evening. It’s funny now, but it sure wasn’t then.

    1. I don’t know what she was thinking, she gets motion sick from even virtual rides at Disney?

    1. Because they are made baggy, I would go down a size. I hardly ever wear these because I think they are too big.

Your poor sister…sound miserable! My son-in-law went deep sea fishing with his son. My daughter went to pick them up at the end of the day and she said Sean (her husband) was white and said “You have to drive, I’m sick as a dog” My grandson was just fine. Now, my step son went a few years later with one of his son’s and the same thing happened, but it was a lot funnier. He said that he got so ill that he went down below, took his shirt off and was puking and hugging the cool floor. He said he didn’t even care that his son was running around the boat without supervision, he just wanted to die! I love a black v neck tee and you look very skinny!

  7. LOL! So funny! As soon as I started reading how fun it would be to go in a sailboat my first thought was “yeah unless you tend to get seasick”. And then you told the story of your sister! Ha ha. But I guess I shouldn’t laugh – poor thing. But all’s well that ends well.

We went deep sea fishing one time with our entire family. The morning we were going to leave the waters looked pretty rough but the captain said the seas had been rough for a few days and they hadn’t been going out and this looked better so they were going to go. I’m thinking he was more concerned about making money than taking people out on rough waters. Well … as you can imagine almost everyone got sick. But my two children – who were about 8 and 6 at the time were just running all over the boat stepping over everyone who was sick. Poor things I couldn’t even get up to get them something to eat so the boat workers gave them some snacks and drinks. LOL. Needless to say — I’ll NEVER do that again! But it was a funny experience. Ha.

Love your casual outfit! Some days we just don’t feel like dressing up but still want to look good. This is perfect!

LOVE the top and chain – the jeans and sneakers, not so much!

  9. Oh my goodness, what a story! I chuckled through, but totally lost it when you said white pants!! But how true, would the color really matter!! Lol! This made my morning! Thanks for sharing at her expense!

  10. Casual perfection — love it!

  11. What happened to details about yesterday’s dress? You looked fabulous in it!

    1. Mary, my 50+ year old brain completely forgot! Haha

      1. Hi, Did you post the details from Sunday’s outfit?
