It’s Leap Year

50 Is Not Old | Leap YearIt only comes around every 4 years. Leap year is today, February 29th, 2016. Children born on February 29th are called “leapers or leaplings.” I always wondered what day you would celebrate your birthday if you were born on leap year. Those who are born at Christmas time think they have it bad, at least your day still comes around every year. Hahaha February 29th is also known as Bachelors Day, a day when women can propose to a man. If the man says no, he is supposed to give a gift, or pay a fine. He also better know how to run really fast, and learn how to duck. Just saying….

50 Is Not Old | Leap YearI’ve been sitting here wracking my brain for something, maybe a little story, to talk about for the 29th of February. I got NOTHING! No story, no memory, nada. Not one thing comes to mind. Well, actually one thing did come to mind, but it is too late. I was sitting here thinking how cool it would have been to host a Leap Year party. Decorate everything in FROGS!!! Get it, leap – frogs. Haha   I somewhat collect frogs. Okay, maybe I do have a story after all. One year my sister, who was probably in college, didn’t have a lot of money to spend on Christmas gifts. So for Christmas she bought me the strangest assortment of gifts you have ever seen. She got me a ceramic mushroom, an umbrella, and a little frog. I have no idea why she bought these items, they were so random, and made no sense. Since then I have begun collecting mushrooms and frogs. Haha50 Is Not Old | Leap Year

Bertha has gotten me several frogs over the past several years. And one year she brought me a glass “lucky” frog back from the Bahamas. It sits on my calculator that is on my desk at work. My husband has the biggest heart ever. He will give people anything, if he can. I came to work one day and my frog was missing. I looked everywhere for it, but couldn’t find the little sucker. I started asking around, and Joe came through and said some lady had been there and remarked how she loved the frog. She would love to have that. YEP! He gave my frog away. I was not happy! In fact, I was pretty mad. It was my frog, a good luck frog, and a gift from Bertha. It didn’t take long for him to realize his mistake.50 Is Not Old | Leap Year

The next day when I came in to work, there was my frog. He had called the woman and explained how I was upset, so she brought back my frog. My frog is still on my calculator, and he now knows not to touch it. Lol!  You would have thought that would have taught him a lesson, but you would be wrong. He has had to call other people, and ask for my things back he has given away since then. I need to start giving his things away. Hahaha50 Is Not Old | Leap YearDid you notice the sun is shining? It is still quite cold, but I love feeling the sun on my face. Let’s start the fashion part of this post with the purse and shoes, since that is the picture you see above. The purse is a Dooney & Bourke that I bought at the QVC outlet. I like the color because I think it is great for all 4 seasons. Even though it is a little expensive, you will get lots of carrying time with this purse. I believe this is called the Chelsea, and it comes in a variety of colors. The Italian leather boots are old, I bought them at TJ Maxx years ago. They were more expensive than I usually pay, but I have worn these over and over, and over. Here is a Nine West pair, here is a pair that looks just like mine but in suede, and here is a pair if money is of no concern.50 Is Not Old | Leap YearThe fur leopard vest is reversible, another way to get the most out of your clothing. I purchased it a craft fair we organized in the fall. Here is a leopard vest, and here is a snow leopard vest. I wore it over a burgundy tank dress that Sandy and Bertha bought me the other day at Classy Closet. Here is a similar dress. I love the dress, but because it is sleeveless, I had to wear something under it. I chose a dark gray turtleneck from Old Navy and then put on some tights in the same color. You can pick up those almost anywhere. I wore a tortoise necklace from TJ Maxx, and I always get compliments on this necklace. Here is a similar short version, and here is one by Kenneth J Lane that is really nice.50 Is Not Old | Leap YearIn case you were wondering about the outfit I had on in yesterday’s post, here are the details. The dark gray knit dress is probably 5 or 6 years old. I like the embellishment at the neck. Here is one from Old Navy that is similar. I have on a light beige faux suede Moto jacket that I bought at Cato’s back this fall. Here is one almost identical from Express, and here is a cotton version that comes in different colors. The booties are by Marc Fisher, and my necklace is called the Zuni by Stella & Dot.

Tomorrow I am going to start styling Spring outfits. I know Jo-Lynne Shane and Cyndi Spivey are doing 27 days of spring, so I am “unofficially” playing along. They just don’t know. Lol!  It is hard styling spring outfits while your watching it snow outside. But, I am willing to sacrifice myself for my gurls. Here is a post I did on spring trends, if you missed it. Be sure to check back tomorrow to see “A Little Spring In My Step.”

Today I am linking up with Jen from Fashionably Employed, More Pieces of Me, and Not Dead Yet Style. Check these ladies out.

The comment section is at the end of the post, so keep scrolling. I look forward to reading all the comments, they make my day.

I absolutely love your outfit. I love leopard print! I have a good friend who is nearly 80 and she says that ladies should wear animal print at least once a week! I know I speak for a lot of people when I say I really enjoy your blog. I hadn’t been to Cato in months and you reminded me about how much I like shopping there. When you have the basic pieces, Cato is a great place for accent pieces and jewelry, too! Thanks for sharing your ideas with us.

I adore your outfit today. I have a similar Dooney and now want to find some matching cute boots in their camel color. You give me the best ideas and inspire me every day. Thanks for all you do!

There’s that leopard vest that I love! I feel for you on the spring front- I couldn’t wait any longer and I boxed all my fall/winter clothes up and have been “springin’ ” it since…… the temps here in TX are warmer than yours, so that is the only way I could get away with it. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for spring fashions .: Well I better ‘hop along’ now (HA!) Happy Leap Year (if there is such a thing) 🙂

Celebrating my 14th birthday today! Next year, it will be on the 28th, since I was born in February not March. In my state legal documents expire on the 28th if it is not a Leap Year. Some states, however, use March 1. Love the burgundy dress.

I have a friend who has a February 29th birthday too. She also will celebrate on the 28th during non leap years. She always says “I’m a February baby, nit a March baby”.

I am seeing tank dresses in the stores for summer. I might try one because I think it would be a nice alternative to shorts. How nice that your friends help with your “financial diet.” I have bought jewelry for friends but not clothes. I enjoyed the frog story. When my son was a freshman in college, he was broke at Christmas time. A friend asked him to go Christmas shopping and he told him that he wasn’t giving any gifts because he didn’t have the funds. His friend, a very resourceful guy who knew how to live on the cheap, said, “C’mon.” They went to a thrift store and my son found gifts for everyone in the family. If I remember correctly, he spent under ten dollars and bought gifts for everyone. He gave some games to his brothers and he bought me a bright red lamp in the shape of an American eagle. It had to be some kid’s project in shop class because it was homemade and definitely somebody was learning how to use a table saw. I LOVE that lamp and still have it in my home. The love and thoughtfulness put into those gifts still touches my heart. Incidentally, this is the same son who gave us a LEG lamp like the one in the movie Christmas story. Love that one as well. 🙂

Don’t you just love “those” kind of gifts. They are the one’s that mean the most to us. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud and the LEG lamp. Hahaha

How smart that you layered your sleeveless dress over a turtleneck! That’s a great way to stretch the closet! The purse is timeless and so versatile!

I love your outfit and the Dooney is classic! Is the purse soft or pebbled leather? It looks very soft. Love the boots too!

If you wake up one day and that necklace is gone…..I live in another state and know nothing! I really like the shorter, swingy dresses with tights and boots. Very flattering. I am only 5’2″ and even I can get away with it and come off feeling “leggy” if my knees and a few inches of lower thigh are showing.
