Spring Trends For 2016

50 Is Not Old | Spring TrendsSpring is right around the corner, but it can’t come fast enough for me. I am dying to wear pink and pastels in every color. I have recently gotten a pedicure, and these little piggies need sandals to show them off. I have been looking through  magazines, searching on Pinterest, reading other blogs, and watching fashion shows to get an idea of the upcoming spring trends. Some of them are outrageous, and some are kind of bland. The fun part is to pick the trends that work for you and run with it.50 Is Not Old | Spring Trends

Pantone color of the year.

Pantone actually picked two colors this year.  Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue, these are both calming and peaceful colors.  When I look at these colors, I think blush pink and a lighter colonial blue.  While shopping in Florida these colors were everywhere. The coordinating colors are shown here. If these colors are not to your liking, then you can buy an accessory in the color to keep you on trend. A scarf, a rose quartz necklace, or a purse would all work. I like this pair of skinny pants, and this seamless t-shirt,

Half Moon Purse/Saddle Bag Purse

This is an adorable style for a purse.  I carry so much in my purse though, mine would be more like a full moon.  Haha  I love the hardware on the front of the purse, but I am not sure about having to open the flap.  Would this be aggravating when buying something?  Here are a couple I like.

I bought these striped pants while in Florida at the Express outlet. I actually like the look really well, I am not positive that I like them with this top however. Next time I wear them, I am going to try them with a darker top or a bright color. I think they would look fabulous with cobalt blue or hot pink. I must still be in a “red” mood from last week. The ankle boots are by Bellini. I love the color and the zipper details. They sure make a statement! Here is where I wore them last.

Paperbag Waist

This is one of those trends that might grow on me. I don’t have a tiny waist, so drawing attention to it is not usually a good thing. These kind of remind me of drawstring pajamas or sweatpants. With that said, I like these shorts. I would need to try them on though to see how they looked.

I just don’t know where to even start. I think the Wal-Mart trend has carried over to the fashion world. I looked at some of the runway shows, and they actually intend for you to wear silky gowns, or pajama tops and bottoms out in public. They show women going to work in a silky pj top, and dress pants. I don’t think the lumber company is ready for this trend! Haha  I’ll just wait on this one.

Now your talking! I love bling, the shinier the better. Think glitz, glam, metallics, baubles! It all works. For the more adventurous types, go for shinny jackets, tops, and dresses.  For those not quite as bold, go for metallic flats or pumps, t-shirts with a little bling, or maybe just shinny jewelry.

Off The Shoulder

This trend in HUGE! It has been gearing up for a couple years, but this year it looks to be in full swing. I bought one of those peek-a-boo shoulder tops a couple years ago and I sewed up the slits. I just was uncomfortable wearing it. Maybe because there was not a lot of women around here showing their shoulders, with the exception of the high schoolers. I’m on the fence with this one. I like the look on some, I just don’t know if I can wear it. I might would wear this one, and this one.50 Is Not Old | Spring Trends

Lace and ruffles are in again this spring. I really like this top, I bought on clearance last year and have never worn. This is a sleeveless Karen Kane top, and it is just so flowy and romantic. I can’t wait for summer to get here when I will be able to wear this top with shorts and capris. I have never liked ruffles next to my face, I think it is because I have too many chins to bring attention up that close, so I am trying to steer clear of that. But, ruffles on the hem is fine. Make those ruffle out of lace, and you have a winner. Here and here are two Karen Kane tops I think would be great this spring.

50 Is Not Old | Spring TrendsThis purse is an Emma Fox brand. I bought it several years ago at TJ Maxx. I really, really like that brand purse. They are substantial and high quality. The only fault I have with them, is they are heavy.

50 Is Not Old | Spring TrendsThe long red cardigan is one that I have had for years. I resisted this style to begin with, till I tried one on and saw how sliming they are. This one is from Catos, but I only found the plus size. I might have overlooked it, so if you like it, check out the website yourself. Here is how I styled the cardigan last time.
Whew! I am worn out. You think it took you a long time to read this post, you should have seen me trying to write it. Online shopping for all these styles, have been pure torture on me. I am still on my financial diet, remember. The things I will do for my gurls. Hahaha

So, which trend do you think you might try?

Thanks for the time you have to spend researching all of the fashion trends. That would be torcher for me. Even though I want to look like I know what is in style, I don’t want to actually do the work to find out. Your blog is a wonderful gift and I really do appreciate it. I plan on reading your sister’s book soon. It looks like a great read. Have a great weekend.

That’s how I feel to Kathy. I am trying to give a little informative content, but only a little. Haha You’ll love the book, it is great for all age levels.

I just recently discovered your blog and have subscribed to it. I feel like we have many things in common including age and that I also live in Virginia 😉 It’s nice to see entire outfits modeled on someone who is not that tall, almost my age, and is willing to try new things. I do read a number of blogs but don’t really spend a lot of time shopping for myself. I think most of my outfits are okay and appropriate for my age, but it’s always nice to get some new ideas! Thank you for your time and hard work; it is appreciated.

Thanks for the trend research. Like anything else, you have to find what works for you. Now that I’m getting older, I kind of like the cold shoulder tops for summer. They hide my upper arms! LOL

So everything old becomes new again….I had a pair of paper bag waist shorts (identical to the ones you show above) in college in the mid 1980s….except they were a SOFT PINK! Oh how I wish I still wore that size!!!

    Have a blessed weekend!

I must admit that I am not in love with Pantone’s color selections of pink and blue… those colors wash me out in the face, so probably won’t be wearing much of either. Ruffles are something I rarely if ever wear. I see them on other gals and think to myself how feminine and cute they look, but when I try to wear them myself they just don’t seem to suit me, so I continue to by pieces that have worked for me year after year. There was a time when I LOVED the off the shoulder look, when I lived in Arizona and always had a bit of a golden tan on my shoulders…. Now I prefer fall clothing that I can hide beneath. LOL Sweaters and turtlenecks. Long pant legs…. Guess I could never live in Florida, could I?

Always appreciate the info you provide us with. Thanks for your hard work. xo

Keeping up with trends can be hard work! Thanks for all the great info in one spot! Great job, Tania! Thanks! – I hope metallic handbags & shoes stay “in”. I just think it’s a pretty look! And the Pantone 2016 colors are nice. The blue I like better. Not sure where I can add pink though. I think some of the other new trends might slide this time for me. lol! – Love your flowy top in today’s outfit. That’s one trend I need to try. So feminine! Seems I read recently that bucket-bag drawstring totes are “in” again. Hope so! I have that in my original Coach bag (soooo old, but in great shape – more than I can say for myself. Hahahaha).

Thanks for trolling the Internet for the styles. I’m on a no -buy February financial diet too. Love the red in your outfit, nice pop of colour. I have a few, well many, Kathy Van Zeeland purses and I love them but they are heavy as well. I wore the paper bag top jeans in the 80’s so not gonna wear them again for sure, I was a lot smaller then than now! Love your blogs gurl!

Great post, Tania. I was just doing some research on all the Spring trends and I agree with you on all of them. It all goes back to figuring out what works for each of us and what we feel comfortable in and look good in. There are some things that I just can’t wear and some things I just won’t wear. But I can still learn from what’s out there, make a few purchases to bring in Spring colors or styles and still be me. Thanks for all your work and kudos on your self-control!
