50 Is Not Old | RomanceDo you buy gifts for Valentines’s Day? My husband and I have never been big gift givers. If we want something, we usually buy it. So buying a gift just because it is an occasion has never been something we subscribed to. BUT, I do sometimes take an opportunity to get something I want. Hahaha50 Is Not Old | RomanceIn our local newspaper, there was an ad for chocolate covered strawberries. I LOVE chocolate covered strawberries. So I took the paper, circled the ad in magic marker, and laid it on Joe’s desk. He was on the phone, and paid it no attention. When I went back, I sweetly asked if he had read the paper yet. Then I tapped on the ad, and it finally sunk in what I was doing. He laughed, and then wanted to know why I didn’t just get them myself. Where is the romance in that? Lol!
50 Is Not Old | RomanceToday is my last day of wearing “red” for the week. I love red, but it is hard when you HAVE to wear it. I have had this stripped sweater for several years. Since stripes are one of the popular trends, I decided to put the sweater back in my fashion rotation. Here is a blue version that is cute. I am wearing a new top though, that was sent to me by Covered Perfectly. When they contacted me about me doing a product review, I was petrified. What if I didn’t like the product? They were confident in their product, so I agreed to try a tunic. I remembered that I had read about Susan at Fifty, not Frumpy, talking about going to a fashion shoot for Covered Perfectly.  I went over to their website and decided on this tunic. I always buy a new white top every year, so I knew I would get a lot of wear from the top. It is a material called micromodal. I have no idea what that is, but I know how it feels. It is a very high quality top, extremely soft next to your skin. It feels terrific, and hangs wonderfully. I actually wore the top in this post, but never said anything because I wanted to wash it and see how it would do. It did great. I chose the v-neck because that is a more flattering look on me, but it also comes in a boat neck, and a scoop neck. If your unsure which style would look best on you, check out this post by Jo-Lynne Shane. I also chose the 3/4 sleeve so that I could wear it in the upcoming summer months. The price of 39.95 concerned me a little, but not anymore. This is not like a t-shirt that you buy at Wal-Mart or Target, it is well worth the price. They have a sale going on now buy 2, get 1 free. After trying the top, I am thinking about ordering this vest. Let me know what you think.
50 Is Not Old | RomanceHere is the completed look for today. I buttoned the sweater and added a navy blazer, remember it is around 20 degrees outside. Here is a price friendly blazer and here is a more expensive version. The jeans are from Catos, and yes I am over fifty and wearing distressed jeans. Some of you won’t like the jeans, and some will, and that is okay. Fashion is whatever you choose to wear, and don’t let anybody tell you differently. Here is a similar pair. These leather shoes (similar) don’t really go with the outfit, but for some reason I felt like wearing them. They are by B.O.C. and are really comfortable. And before you ask, no I do not have on any socks. I don’t like to wear socks, even when I wear boots. The exception to that rule is my Hunter boots. Those suckers are cold without socks. Lol!50 Is Not Old | RomanceBTW, Joe has 4 dozen chocolate covered strawberries on order. Haha  Now that is how romance is done!!!

Also, be sure to let the folks at Covered Perfectly know that when they do another fashion shoot, they need to include a blonde-bobbed over 50 blogger from Virginia. Lol!

  1. You will love the cascading vest. I love mine and always get compliments when I wear it. It completes an outfit so easily.

Thanks Karen. I really like the tunic, it is the made from the best fabric ever. I was just having a hard time deciding which vest I would try. Lol!

  2. How funny 😄my husband and I are like that too. We did when we were younger but somewhere along the way we stopped only to realize we like giving each other things whenever it strikes us. I also will show a picture of something or say the next time we are at… or next time you are on Amazon… HINT HINT! You have done a great job showing all the different red options. It’s such a good color on you and I like today’s outfit alot. If you want to wear distressed jeans- go for it. Looks good. Hope you have a fabulous day.

Thanks Michele! Your comment made me smile☺️😊

  3. You will definitely rock the vest. Can’t wait to see the different ways you will wear it!!

  4. You look good in whatever you wear!! I love the red on you and like how you added the blazer on top. Very pretty! I wish I could wear shoes without socks or hose….I know that is the trend, but I am not comfortable in most shoes without covering on my feet. Oh well.

I must be behind, Debbie, cause I didn’t know it was a trend to not wear socks. Haha

  5. Cute outfit! If you like the distressed jeans, then I say, wear them! My husband and I do exchange gifts for Valentine’s day, but we also give each other gifts through out the year ” just because. ” We also go on a date night once a week. Romance is still such an important part of a marriage, I believe.
Your chocolate strawberries sound devine! Be sure to feed some to Joe! Lol.
    Happy Valentine’s day! 🙂

That is fabulous, Julie. A date night once a week would be wonderful. Don’t let that slip away.

  6. I enjoyed your blog (again) today! My hubby & I are much like you & Joe (and probably a lot of boomer couples). We get what we want, pretty much, when we want it. BUT “commercial holidays” are just an extra reason to splurge. My dearest gives me flowers. Used to be BIG flowers! I was overwhelmed! I did (sweetly) suggest a smaller, cuter (cheaper) version would make me just as happy. I really rather have clothes (or jewelry, maybe? ha!), but he has the idea women love to be sent flowers, and the gesture is what counts! It makes him happy….ergo (what a word, huh?!), it makes me happy! The flowers are displayed in all their glory! – I’ve not tried CP clothing yet, but my fav bloggers are really recommending their line. Thanks for your honest opinion. Anything you choose will be perfect! (that’s a nice looking vest!). – Happy Valentine’s!

  7. I too am in the no socks camp. And it is colder than freezing here but I refuse. Red looks good on you! Husband and I had a huge disagreement and I am not speaking to him. Didn’t get him anything for Valentines day so this should be interesting!

  8. Super cute as usual! I also hate socks and if it weren’t negative 100 here (exaggerating a tad) I would never wear them… I’m a year round pedi girl:) I’m excited to try the tunic! Thanks for sharing and Happy Valentines Day!!

  9. I love your jeans! What about purses? You have several cute ones!! I carry the same one all season. Do you change for every outfit? I have passed your blog on to other friends. You may just be one of our favorite new topics at “Monday Coffee”.

    • Tania Reply

Debra, I don’t change purses near as often as I should. I HATE taking everything out and transferring to the new purse. So there are times when a different purse would look better, but I am just too lazy to switch. Haha Thanks for sharing my blog with your friends.😘

  10. I love my tops from Covered Perfectly. I recently purchased 3 and I want to wear them every day. They are so soft and well made. I am also in the no socks camp. In fact, I would rather not even shoes 🙂 . Love your blog. I look forward to it every day.

  11. Tania, you are just adorable! I love reading your blog; so much fun in them. I think I will be heading over to Covered Pefectly to order some tops. Does the white top fall so as not to show too much of the tummy rolls?

Thanks for asking, Bernadine, I forgot to mention the length. This is a tunic style, so it falls around mid-hip on me. I tucked it in because of the length of my sweater and jacket.

  12. We have been married 33 years and I am absolutely terrible about buying him gifts. Luckily he could care less. I try to do things for him that make his life easier and he seems to really appreciate that and is always thankful.
He is a great gift giver. He pays attention to what I am pining after and usually at the next holiday I end up with it. That’s how I got my Kendle 5 years ago. WHAT A MAN!! Lol. I think it is a trait they are born with because one of our three kids is like that.
Love your jeans and sweater. I am wondering…..does the shirt, sweater and blazer make you feel bulky or confined. I have large….a.k.a fat arms and not sure this would wear well for me. Just wondering.

    • Tania Reply

My husband is the opposite of yours, Kathy. Lol He just tells me to pick out what I want. Haha I have had sweaters and jackets that made my arms feel too bulky, but this is a fairly thin sweater, so it didn’t bother me. The sleeves of the tunic stayed in place and didn’t “ride up”, so that helped also. You just have to experiment with the thicknesses of the items.

  13. I love all of your outfits! Not sure I would wear the distressed jeans, but I’m with you when you say, wear what you like. They look great on you. I love the layers as well. Being from Ohio, midwest winters are fickle. Last week it was in the 40’s, today it won’t get above freezing, so layering is essential. Socks…always, until it is at least in the 70’s. Ha, ha. Keep sylin’!

  14. That tunic looks great and versatile. I always need a basic white and black tunic to layer with everything and like you I need to get a new one every season because I wear them out! @rounditrosie

  15. Another great look. For someone who isn’t into shoes you sure have cute ones. In fact my husband (really me😉) bought me some red Hunter boots today on EBay. I told him that’s what he bought me anyway😇. If you are wearing something I like that’s the first place I look. My way of recycling.

    • Tania Reply

I look there too. Most of the time you can find the more expensive items there for at least 1/2 price. I like calling it recycling😍

  16. We take a similar approach with gifts! I usually send a list of things I want, and he picks from it. HA! This year he did bring me roses, so there’s that.

But I say, romance, schmonance. The guy comes home to me every night and does his fair share with the kids and washes the dishes when I make a mess in the kitchen and takes care of the yard without ever asking me to pitch in. That’s true romance, right there. I can buy my own flowers. 😉

Love the red and white striped top, and now I need to check out Covered Perfectly.
