Body Types That Aren’t Fruit – Radiant

50 Is Not Old | Body Types | Radiant This series is almost over, and I am thrilled. This series has kicked my butt. It started out easy enough, with the Emerald shape. But it has gotten progressively harder with each new body type. Is this how you feel too? Frustrated because nothing looks right?  50 Is Not Old | Body Types | Radiant Today’s body type is radiant, formally known as the apple. If you are this shape, your shoulders and your hips are smaller than your waist. The goal is to widen the top and hips, while trying to narrow or camouflage the waist. I was ready to throw in the towel and admit defeat last night. I called my sister and told her to look at the outfits I had taken pictures of for my radiant reveal. She told me I should keep trying, after she finally quit laughing. Lol! Don’t worry, I intend to show my failures later in this post. I went in my closet to give it one more try, and I hit pay dirt. I think I like this outfit better than any of the previous ones. 50 Is Not Old | Body Types | Radiant The burgundy tank undershirt and the caramel boyfriend sweater cardigan are both from Old Navy. The sweater is one that I have had for several years, but it has always been one of my favorites. Here is a cute sweater, but it is in oatmeal. The necklace is one that I bought this past December at Charlotte Russe. The reason this look works, is the tank is a scoop neck, or a wide neck. Those styles, along with the v-neck and sweetheart neck, will open up your chest and create width. The necklace is bolder and shorter, this will help draw the eye up. Here is a similar one. The cardigan hides the outline of the waist and creates vertical lines making you seem thinner.50 Is Not Old | Body Types | Radiant The sweater skirt is one I bought this past fall at Maurices. I wore it once before, here, but I like it better this time. I love wearing a sweater skirt with tights and boots. This sweater skirt has a horizontal design, which will help to widen the hip area. Skirts or dresses that float away from the hips, help to create a smaller waist line. With jeans and pants, you need to wear boot cut or the wide leg style. Wearing knee-high boots, flats, or chunky heels are best. These are my trusty riding boots that go with pretty much everything. If you don’t already own a pair of boots like these, go now. Here is a gorgeous pair from Macy’s.50 Is Not Old | Body Types | Radiant Okay, when you stop laughing I will start with the positive parts of this outfit. I love the jacket! The material is thick and the pearl embellishments are striking. The funny thing is, I never seem to wear it. I have tried it on over several different shirts and dresses, but nothing seems to work. My thought process was a wide neck shirt and then add the jacket with the pearls down the front to create a vertical line. The problem with this look is the pants. I should have either worn wider legged pants, or worn a knee-high boot. You know what they say about hind-sight. Lol! If you think I messed up with this look, keep scrolling and see how bad it was before I changed jackets.50 Is Not Old | Body Types | Radiant Goodness, this is just WRONG!!! I had good intentions, but it just is a hot mess. I belted the waist to try to create a waist line, which is good, but the sweater is too long and it hugs the legs. Yep, I created a round image, the very thing I was trying to fix.50 Is Not Old | Body Types | Radiant If I crop the picture, it looks pretty good. However, I can’t go through the day without my legs, so I guess changing the sweater was the best option. Haha

Virtual shopping is easier than shopping my closet. This cardigan, when worn open, would create the vertical shape you need. The pants are wide legged, and would widen the lower half. And, this top is gorgeous, and the cap sleeve and the wide neck would help to wide the upper half.50 Is Not Old | Body Types | Radiant

Here is the 1st part of the series, here is the 2nd, and here is the 3rd part, in case you missed them. Well, what did you think about this series? I know what I think….I should just stick to playing dress-up and talking about the weather. Hahaha

You might have noticed a new design to the website. I hope you like the new look, and that you are able to navigate its features easily. The comment section is at the end of the post, so keep scrolling. I look forward to reading all the comments, they make my day.

May I ask how tall you are ? When I wear a lot of the longer cardigans I seem to get lost in them I’m only 5 feet tall and it’s very hard to find many different styles in petite. Love love love that outfit you look fabulous as always.

Actually the sweater could be used as a dress with leggings or tights and booties! Cute!

I would have to look better with leggings, it looked awful like I tried. If I get up the nerve to try again, I’ll be sure and let you know.

I’m just thrilled, Amy, that I finally got an outfit that looked decent. It was a struggle. Haha

Thank you for your struggles to showcase outfits! You gave us the general idea we are trying to create and I think that’s harder to do when your not that shape. I like the last out fit. I think this would be a good disguise for my apple middle. I think the pants and jacket would have worked with a black top. Easy for me to say. LOL You are so entertaining. Keep it up and by all means continue to be yourself! I feel like I have found a new best friend when I read your post. I read others but to be honest you are the one I relate to. Have a great weekend.

You did a great job with this series and I am sure it was helpful for a lot of us who struggle with what looks right for our body type. Your sense of humor is awesome- I so enjoy reading your blog. I did some shopping myself yesterday and got some classic pieces and a pair of black kitten heels for “date night.”
Hope you have a wonderful weekend,

Wonderful job! I was a figure 8 and am now a “radiant”. I have to admit, I have had a hard time with the transition. I have been dressing like your “mistakes” and quite frankly, I looked just like them (and not happy with the results)! I do look much better when I get it right… As in your first pick. Please share more tips of how you got it right for the radiant.

Love that you dress like a woman. Not too old and not too young! Love that you wear color and accessorize.

If you would share more if you thoughts of how you put the outfits together, that would be great!

    Looking good Hollywood!

LOVE the look and the series!! It may have pushed you a little, but it turned out very well. The best part is your willingness to share the goofs. That is what makes me come back every day…that you are so “real” and hilarious. Plus good at fashion. The update to the site is nice. Very professional.

Hope your weekend is as glorious as ours is supposed to be! The forecast is clear with highs in the upper 70s. Makes me so happy! It’s been cold all week. Winter days like this weekend are why I love living where I do!! Might just have to take the top off the Jeep Wrangler…..

      January 29, 2016

Thanks Brandye. The series did push me, but it gave me a better understanding of the struggles we all face. I am heading to FL for the week, so I too will be having temps in the 70’s????

Great posts! I have spent the last week looking at all of the archives since you began this blog. Yes, my husband says I am obsessed. But…I am so enjoying it all. I even checked out some of the other blogs you suggested but I just connect with everything you post. And your faith shines through, that is important to me. Thanks for being you.
