How many times have you heard the saying, “it’s not what you know it’s who you know?” I recently read this in a book I am reading. The author was talking about how to get ahead in his business and discussing his contact list. He reasoned that the more people you know the more successful you can become. He then went on to do a little “name dropping.”
People who “name drop” are usually trying to impress you. I know such and such and your reaction is supposed to be, WOW! Most of the time these people do not really know the person they are talking about. Or better yet, the other person does not know them. I once met Mohammed Ali, I had my photograph taken with Al Gore, I rode in an elevator with Bob Hope. Are you impressed? Do you think any of those people know me? Did they tell anyone that they met ME? Of course not! It was cool to have met these people but it didn’t make a difference in my life one way or the other.
The one we need to know already knows us. HE knows all about us, the very thoughts we think, the things we have done, even the number of hairs on our heads. HE made us. HE loves us. Do you know HIM?
You have the book HE wrote but have you read it? You have HIS personal cell phone number (prayer) but do you use it? Is HIS name the name we “drop” when we are trying to impress someone?
In the end, it REALLY is who you know that counts. And, more importantly, it is who knows you.
Have a blessed Sunday!
